PRESENTED BY, CH.NAGA SAI KRISHNA K.SRAVAN KUMAR 09881A0477 09881A0498

UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF: S.SRINIVAS Assistant Professor Department of ECE

INTRODUCTION
THE THEME
The main idea behind this project is to generate musical notes using Infra-Red Radiations(IR). Musical notes can be transferred

from the transmitter section to the receiver section using the IR

rays and thus this circuit can be implemented in wireless music systems, mobile devices and the Closed Circuit -cameras.

THE INFRA-RED RAYS

THE ELECTRO MAGNETIC SPECTRUM FREQUENCY : 300 GHz 450 THz WAVE LENGTH : 750nm 1mm

MELODY GENERATOR UM66

UM-66 is basically a MELODY integrated circuit.

The IC UM-66 generates musical notes

whenever supply is given to it and drives a speaker via a transistor or a simple resistor. The melody is stored in a 64-bit ROM in the form of Beats and these beats are transmitted when the supply is given. Used to construct call bells, simple musical

gadgets, toys etc.

THE AUDIO RECEIVER SECTION

THE OPERATION OF THE CIRCUIT

The circuit can be divided into two parts: IR music transmitter and

the receiver.
OPERATION OF TRANSMITTER SECTION: The output of IC1 is fed to the IR driver stage (built across the transistors T1 and T2) to get the maximum range Here the red LED (LED1) flickers according to the musical tones generated by UM66 IC. For maximum sound transmission these should be oriented towards IR phototransistor L14F1 (T3). .

THE OPERATION OF THE CIRCUIT

THE RECEIVER SECTION

The IR music receiver uses popular op-amp IC A741 and audio-frequency

amplifier IC LM386 along with phototransistor L14F1. The gain can be varied using potmeter VR1. The output of IC A741 is fed to IC LM386 (IC3) via capacitor C5 and potmeter VR2. Potmeter VR2 is used to control the volume of loudspeaker LS1 (8-ohm, 1W).

THE APPLICATIONS

WIRELESS MUSIC SYSTEMS

X-10 POWERMID RECEIVERS AND TRANSMITTER IR REMOTE CONTROL

CLOSED CIRCUIT CAMERAS

SIMPLE MOBILE GADGETS

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

ADVANTAGES Highly sensitive Two stage Gain control Very low noise Low cost and reliable circuit

Can transmit up to 10 meters

DISADVANTAGES Not suitable for long range transmission Noise if there are obstacles between the transmitter and receiver.

CONCLUSIONS
The IR-Communication finds various applications in short distance field of communications. It is one of the best ways of building wireless gadgets.

In future there is scope of building virtual environment using the principles of IR ray transmission and reception.
Virtual gaming which also employs IR reception techniques is still in research processes which is soon going to rule the gaming world.
