Music Video Use & Development of Conventions from Real Media Products

In scenes like this when we focused on entire wide/establishing shots we wanted to portray the themes of band. We already gave them a darker atmosphere through a blackened background. The use of major LED lighting and the basic scaffolding to show the convention of bare and harsh reality in this music genre. At the same time the cross-cutting between each member coincides with the crucial usage of their musical talent at specific moments in the song. With shots focusing on the singer it was key to shoot the pinnacle moments in her raised pitch and volume in the lyrics, but also her physical action were used in the time of our editing. A similar method was used in the filming and editing with scenes of the drummer swinging of his stick and clashing of symbols made perfect opportunities for cross-cutting in our piece. On the matter of Realism; the main focus is in the Lyrics, but as the band described in an interview, having a female voice in a rock band is unusual and so has more effect, and is heard with more intensity alongside the powerful genre of the music. The circulation around the singer symbolises the importance of her role; telling the viewers the message of the piece A clear convention in all music since any song with lyrics usually has a message to present to their audience.

One importance repetition in our music video was matching rhyme in the song with editing where wed jump from a mid or close-up of each band member before a cut to a close shot of their skill with their instrument. The convention of showing the talent of the band members we ranged far and wide through a number of shot types; from tracking, through extreme close-ups and even over the shoulder shots, reflecting on the magnitude of their work in this piece. As well as timing the cross-cutting with the physical actions of the band and beats in the music, we also used the effects of the lighting flashing and spirals were key to carry the scenes across in style so to give it a modern effect. As well as jumping from each member to their own performance in close-up, the range of shots outlines the stature of each individual member, and their purpose in this song.
