Definition

(Definition A term used by negotiators to describe the best option available to their side if negotiations fail. The term BATNA was coined by Roger Fisher and William Urey in their book Getting to Yes: Negotiating Without Giving In. Negotiators who have a strong, well-defined BATNA have an advantage because they have a clear benchmark to which they can compare any negotiated settlement.

COALITION

Temporary grouping of rival entities (such as buyer and sellers, sellers and sellers, or different political parties) formed for a shortterm and narrow aim (such as countering a common enemy). Unlike an alliance, a coalition does not usually involve meeting of minds and pooling of resources

COERCIVE POWER

Definition Authority or power that is dependent on fear, suppression of free will, and/or use of punishment or threat, for its existence.

For example, a business manager imbued with charismatic leadership could be enlisted to orchestrate a turnaround or launch a new product line.
