Telecommunications
Telecommunications: refers to the electronic transmission and reception of signals for communications.
Succeeding with Technology 4th ed> Telecommunications, Wireless & Networks >
Types of Signals
Analog Signal: transmits sound using continuously varying levels of voltage. Digital Signal: transmits data using two discrete states of voltage: high and low.

Signal Frequency
Frequency: the speed at which a signal changes from high to low. Bandwidth: the range of signal frequencies that can be sent over a given medium at the same time.
Often expressed as bits per second Broadband: typically 2 5 Mbps

Broadband
Broadband or highspeed Internet refers to a connection that is always on or active, such as cable or DSL.
The huge array of digital records maintained by modern hospitals, including patient records and digital images from X-rays, MRIs, and other medical procedures, requires broadband networks to transfer records between locations.

Networking Media
Twisted Pair
consists of pairs of twisted wires covered with an insulating layer.
Coaxial cable
consists of an inner conductor wire surrounded by insulation, a conductive shield (usually a layer of foil or metal braiding), and a cover.
Fiber Optic
consists of extremely thin strands of glass or plastic bound together in a sheathing (a jacket), transmits signals with light beams.
