Comparing the Villages

The Village of Fruitless Mountain and the Village of Fruitful Mountain differ because:
Before Fruitful Mountain was replenished, the people of its village were constantly wishing for more. They did not have good fortune and didnt understand why they worked so hard and got nothing in return. Afterward, they learned to be selfless, and grateful for what they have, no matter what. Minli learned that she didnt actually need to ask the Old Man of the Moon about her familys fortune, because she learned what they needed along the way.

Discussion
What a great way to portray the village and the changes that it made. Minli left in search of her families fortune and came back realizing that her fortune was always in the village. By Minli being unselfish and learning important values from the people she met along the way, she learns the real value of family. The pictures you used to show the change in the Mountain, the village, and the families were very inspiring. Michelle Sergent

Excellent pictures Christen! I think they are very good choices to represent what's happening in the book and the characters. Your quote on the slide about comparing the villages, "Afterward, they learned to be selfless, and grateful for what they have, no matter what. Minli learned that she didnt actually need to ask the Old Man of the Moon about her familys fortune, because she learned what they needed along the way." This reminded me of the Wizard of Oz and how Dorothy had everything she needed to go home the entire time, but never knew it! Sort of similar to what happened to Minli. Everything she needed to change the village's fortune, she already had! Lauren Hirsch
I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the mountain pictures you used in your presentation. I also liked that you highlighted the importance of family and community to this village. Maria Ortiz
