Our Recipe: Semiconducting Oxide Powder

We want to produce Semiconducting Oxide Nanomaterials!

Dr. Z.L. Wang (UAPT PI) Material Science & Engineering Georgia Institute of Technology

Our Technique: HVPG

Horizontal Vapor Phase Growth Technique

MOTIVATION
Grow high purity materials Source material is powder of any form Greater quantity with less source material No gas molecules in between Versatility in composition of deposit Produces unusual microstructures Eliminate pollutants

What will I do with the heater?

Lets Cook: Our Recipe and Ingredients

A small amount of Semiconducting Oxide powder was loaded in a close-end quartz tube Was attached to the High Vacuum System for sealing at 10-6 Torr

Lets Bake! The sealed quartz tube was placed in a tube furnace set with the desired growth temperature

Two-probe measurements of electric conductance of Nanobelts under ambient temperature The electric conductance of the nanobelt depends on the type and amount of molecules adsorbed on its surface

High Resolution SEM image of the SnO2 Nanomaterial

The surface of the SnO2 nanomaterial is porose and composed of many uniform crystalline grains. It suggests that this nanomaterial is suitable for fabricating gas sensors because of the porosity over large surface.

Photoluminescence of SnO2 Nanomaterials

SnO2 Nanomaterial was excited with a UV lamp The luminescence was a blue visible light emission.
