Agenda
Purpose
of SAP IS-U
Utility Scenario
The main purpose of this presentation is to familiarize the participants with the key features, processes and terminology used in SAP IS-Utilities Device Management module. This presentation gives an overview of master data requirements and all the process flows which are involved in device management. After going through the presentation the participants should be able to understand the overall scope of device management.
Business Partner(Customer)
Business Partner means the Consumer who consumes a utility service which in this case is Gas. Each customer has a unique Business Partner number in the system The business partner is billed for the Gas consumed and is responsible for the payment of the bill. Typically a business partner is classified in the following categories: Person, Group, and Organization.
Connection Object
Connection Object is the physical entity where the Utility Company provides the utility services. A typical example of a connection object can be a Building or a Factory
Premise
A premise is an enclosed spatial unit (such as an apartment or suite) to which a utility service is supplied. The premise is allocated to a connection object and is associated to the address of that connection object. Several installations can be allocated to one premise (for different utilities such as water, Gas etc.) A contract account become billable only after the customer moves in to the premise.
10
Device Location
Device location is a place within a Connection Object where the device (Meter) is physically installed. The device location is allocated to the address of the connection object and premise. Device Location contains a description to define the exact location of the meter inside the building for the convenience of the meter reader in locating the installed Meter for taking reading when he visits the building.
11
Utility Installation
Utility Installation represents the installation of Gas connection at the customer's premises. Utility Installation contains data relevant to billing contracts, for example the rate category and installation facts e.t.c. Utility Installations are assigned to and grouped under a Meter Reading Unit (MRU) based on their location. Meter Reading Schedules are generated separately for each MRU which determine the dates and frequency of Meter reading.
12
13
14
Register Group
Register Group consists of the set of registers in a meter which actually capture the amount of units consumed at an installation. Each Device Category of the type Meter is assigned a Register Group.
15
16
Device Serial Number is assigned to Premise and Contract Account of the customer during the Meter installation.
Each Device is assigned under a device category having a particular register group. Thus each combination of Device Serial Number, Device Category and Register Group is unique and identifies a particular Meter.
17
Meter Reading Unit (MRU): Meter reading units group together utility installations according to regional criteria. They contain all data relevant to meter reading scheduling.
Scheduling: Scheduling periodically generates dates for meter reading and billing.
18
Portions
Portions are groups of contracts that are to be billed together. A contract is allocated to a portion either directly in the contract or indirectly via the meter reading units that are specified in the utility installation belonging to the contract They are the equivalent of billing cycles, they combine contracts that are to be billed together, and contain dates for billing.

Scheduling
Scheduling periodically generates dates for meter reading and billing. Before you can generate these schedule records, you must create the schedule master records for meter reading (the meter reading units) and for billing (the portions). Based on the dates set up in the portion, schedule records are generated for all MRUs When the scheduled meter reading date associated with an MRU is reached Meter Reading Orders have to be generated against it. Billing Orders are generated automatically.
21
Meter Management
Metering Management consists of:
Meter Reading Orders Meter Reading Entry Meter Reading Estimation Meter Reading Validation Meter Reading Correction
22
Meter reading orders are generated based on meter reading schedules for each Meter Reading Unit (MRU).
Meter reading entry takes place on dates specified in the schedule for the number of meter installations which lie within that particular Meter reading unit for which the order has been generated
