Similarities
Both Genres use common conventions to try to attract the viewer. Both use contrasting colours to make certain pieces of information stand out. E.g. The Masthead. All Masthead are accompanied by slogans and are the largest brightest thing on the poster. This attracts the audiences attention to consider going to see the film.

Differences
Horror posters are busier as they need to do more to attract the viewer. This is partially due to the fact they use less known actors. Comedy films use lighter colours opposed to horror films which use dark colours to represent fear and death. Horror films will always have the villain and hero on the poster as opposed to other genres which will mainly contain only the protagonist.
