What is Organizational Behaviour ? The Primary Behavioural Disciplines contributing to OB The major challenges and opportunities for OB . How the knowledge of OB can help the Managers ?

Behaviour is a field of study that investigates the impact that individuals ,groups and structure have on behaviour within organizations for the purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving an organizations effectiveness .

OB is the study of human behaviour. The study of human behaviour is about behaviour in organizations. Knowledge about human behaviour would be useful in improving an organizations effectiveness. Above all, it shows the linkages among human behaviour in organizational settings, the individual-organizational interface, the organization , as well as the environment surrounding the organization.

Interpersonal Role In the figurehead role, the manager represents the organization in all matters. In the leader role, the manager ensures motivation and growth of the employee. In the liaison role, the manager interacts with peers, and people outside the organization. Informational roles In the monitor role, the manager uses information to keep track of the progress towards the goals of the organization. In the disseminator role, the manager transmits information to the concerned persons in the organization.

In the spokesperson role, the manager disseminates the organizations information into its environment. Decisional Roles :In the entrepreneur role, the managers at the top level look for opportunities internally and externally and initiate change, the supervisors design the details of the projects. In the disturbance handler role, the manager deals with threats to the organization. In the resource allocator role, the manager widely decides who needs when and how much to work for achieving the goals. In the negotiator role, the manager negotiates on behalf of the organization.

Planning Deciding what needs to happen in the future (today, next week, next month, next year, over the next five years etc.) and preparing action plans. Organizing Making optimum use of the resources required to enable the successful carrying out of plans. Leading/Motivating Getting others to play an effective part in achieving plans. Controlling/monitoring checking progress against plans, which may need modification based on feedback.

Anthropology study of societies to learn about human beings and their activities. Political Science Study of the behaviour of individuals and groups within a political environment.
