INTRODUCTION TO QUALNET
QualNet is a comprehensive suite of tools for modeling large wired and wireless networks. It uses simulation and emulation to predict the behavior and performance of networks to improve their design, operation and management. QualNet enables users to: Design new protocol models. Optimize new and existing models. Design large wired and wireless networks using preconfigured or user-designed models. Analyze the performance of networks and perform what-if analysis to optimize them.

INTRODUCTION TO QUALNET(CONTD..)

The key features of QualNet that enable creating a virtual network environment are: Speed Scalability Model Fidelity Portability Extensibility QualNet GUI consists of Architect, Analyzer, Packet Tracer, and File Editor.

SATELLITE MODEL LIBRARY

The models described in the Satellite Model Library are:

Model Name ANESAT Model Satellite-RSV Model

Model Type MAC Layer PHY Layer

SATTSM-PHY Model

PHY Layer

SATELLITE MODEL LIBRARY(CONTD..)

QualNet Satellite Addon provides a number of features to assist the system architect analyze the performance of satellite-enabled networks. These include: Different beam signatures Advanced MAC simulation of multiple uplinks per downlink . Advanced modulation techniques and forward error correction simulation. Adaptive modulation techniques on the forward and reverse directions of the satellite to adapt to dynamic transmission conditions. Quality of service and traffic conditioning to ensure fairness to all users. Satellite count limited only by available memory. Support for advanced media access and resource allocation algorithms for packet scheduling.

PHYSICAL AND MAC LAYER MODEL

There are two physical layer models. They are: Satellite Technology Support Module Physical Layer (SATTSMPHY) Aloha Satellite Model with RSV Support (Satellite-RSV)

Abstract Network Equation Satellite (ANESAT) Model is the MAC layer model available

PROTOCOLS AND TECHNOLOGY USED

Constant Bit Rate is an encoding method where the bitrate used doesn't fluctuate. CBR is useful for streaming multimedia content on limited capacity channels. Variable Bit Rate is an encoding method in which the bit rate changes continuously during the encoding process depending on the nature of the audio. File Transfer Protocol (FTP) FTP Generic 802.11b technology is a IEEE standard for wireless lan networks(wifi networks) which uses a 2.4GHz radio frequency range.
