Researchers use their companys PORTAL to be connected to experts, to access information, knowledge and the expertise of other colleagues regardless of where they are in the world. Portals are the "technical embodiment" of the "corporate memory". The bibliographic chain (BC) is a core part of the corporate memory. Different GENERATIONS collaborate in the corporate environment!!

Importance of

(Some people refer to this CYCLE as the Bibliographic Chain.)
Formal communication

Work-in-progress
Research is about PROBLEM SOLVING and it involves finding information (resources) to help you develop your ideas into something new or into ACTIONABLE INFORMATION to be used to your companys advantage. In 1976 the bibliographic chain was developed and it included the layers portrayed here. But seriously 1976 is a LONG time ago this model needs revision. Thats what RR1 is about you have to revive it.

Research Report
An IKM-student is of value to any enterprise because they know how to work in the KE, they know how to manage knowledge and how to use technology in the research process. Obviously academic research and business research differ, but the skill remains the same and it is this skill that you will use to your companys advantage.
