1) Open end Spanners
Turning square head nuts and bolts. Size is determined by width of opening. End is usually offset 15 degrees, each end is a different size

2) Combination Spanners:
One end open, one end boxed both the same size can be different lengths Turning hex and square nuts and bolts.

3) Ring Spanners
End is totally enclosed in 6 or 12 point openings. Can be double offset or box offset 15 degrees for clearance for hand. Comes in different lengths, each end is a different size, good wrench for breaking loose tight bolt sturning hex head nuts and bolts.

4 ) Socket Spanners Tubular type spanners
that fits over the nut. Used with a detachable handle. The drive end of the handle has a square end which fits into a square hole in the socket

Ring Spanner of C shape, S shape and L shape are used at places which are hard to reach with normal spanner

Useful for irregular size bolts and nuts. Should be use for special work only. Must not be considered as a substitute for all spanner. Often referred to as shifting spanner

Spanners are marked with the size of the nut or head of the bolt on which they will be used The dimension across the nut or bolt head from one flat side to the other, referred to as across the flat Metric spanner are marked in millimeters. Typical Markings are 6mm,7mm, 8mm,10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm etc
