Piping down the valleys wild, Piping songs of pleasant glee, On a cloud I saw a child, And he laughing said to me: Pipe a song about a lamb! So I piped with merry cheer. Piper, pipe that song again. So I piped: He wept to hear.

Once the poet was playing his pipe in the wild valley. He was playing songs of happiness. He happened to see a child on a cloud. The child laughed and spoke to him. The child asked him to play him a song about a lamb. The poet did it with great joy. The child asked the poet to play it again. When the poet repeated the song, the child wept to hear it.

A mode of expression in which words are used out of their literal meaning or out of their ordinary use in order to add beauty in poet comparing or identifying one thing with another. Generally they are used in poem

Personification poem
I know that clouds arent people, But theyre looking glum today So I say that they are sad As I watch the sky turn gray. Now, the sky is not a person, But I feel its raindrop tears. So I say that it is crying, And then the sun appears. The sun is not a person, But its warmth spreads like a grin. So I say the sun is smiling, And the sky cheers up again.
