Section A

Section A test vocabulary. 3 Questions Levels - word level, phrase level and sentence level. study the pictures (use the Wh questions get clues from pictures). Study the options given, choose the best answer.

Section B

Section B - test social situations; use speech bubbles in the pictures. Look at the picture, read the dialogues in the speech bubbles to get general clues (to enquire, to assure, to inform, to explain, to apologise). Choose the best sentence that fits the empty speech bubble.

Section C

Section C - test grammar, punctuation and spelling Grammar - read and understand the grammar rules that need to be applied. Reason out the answer by recalling the grammar rules you have learnt.

Punctuation questions - read all the options given first and circle the errors. Compare your choice with the other options - find the sentence without errors. Spelling - read the options given carefully. Compare the words with the other options find the correct word.

Section

D - test vocabulary and grammar (usually) Read the text - determine the tense. Look for clues (words that show the tense). Refer to the picture given to get the general idea.

Comprehension

Texts = linear and a non linear text. Read the text given twice. First reading - get an idea what the text is about. Second reading - understand the important points. Words you dont understand, underline it and read the sentences a few more times to guess the meaning. Read the questions carefully - read all the options given before choosing the best answer.

Section A

Tests ability to write sentences. Construct 5 sentences based on a picture. Dont have to use the 10 helping words given. Construct simple sentences, compound sentences and complex sentences. Check the grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Simple Sentences

Example:

Compound Sentences

Example:

The

boys and their friends are playing football in the field.

Complex Sentences

Example:

Johan,

who is wearing jersey number seven, is playing football in the field.


White = simple yellow = compound green = complex

Do not make assumptions. Write only what you can see in the picture. To use names - describe clearly the person you are writing about. Example:
Zul is holding a hockey stick. (WRONG) which one is Zul? Zul, who is the tallest among the boys, is holding a hockey stick. (CORRECT)

DO NOT!

Dont relate yourself to the picture. Example:

DO NOT!

My father and mother are watching

television in the living room. (WRONG)

A man and a woman are watching television


in the living room. (CORRECT)

Section B

Two questions. Transfer informations from the question into the table. Make a choice and state logical reasons for the choice based on the question given.

Check the spelling, punctuation and writing.

Write clearly and obey the punctuation rules.

Read the answers already given in the table to get clues how to write. Choose the information based on what is required in the table. Do not copy in any particular sequence.

Make a choice

Read the instruction. Make a choice. Write based on the choice made. Check grammar, spelling or punctuation errors.

on the information given, which type of tour would you suggest? Give reasons for your choice.

Stating reasons

Dont only write statements. Support them with logical and suitable reasons. Give some elaboration on your reasons. Example: I would choose Aerobus 380 because it can carry the most number of passengers. It is also the longest and the widest among the three planes. Thus, it will be more spacious and I will be able walk around in the plane especially since Im going to Paris. It is the fastest and does not need any refueling until its destination. It is powered by four jet engines. It will be able to reach the destination faster than the others.

Section C Creative Writing


Read the instruction CAREFULLY before writing their answer. May or may not need to use all the words depends on the instruction. Read above! Write creatively based on the pictures and words given. CAN freely name the characters and place in the pictures.

Section C How to Start?


Start with an interesting introduction and end it with an interesting closure. 2 or 3 sentences will be sufficient for introduction. 4 sentences for each picture. Describe the pictures well and interesting by using proverbs and similes. Read through the sentences. Check for any errors in grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Making your way through exams?


Be alert and concentrate while answering the questions. Leave the question that are difficult, answer the easier ones and come back to the difficult ones later. Read the instruction CAREFULLY before attempting to answer the questions. Finally, check all your answers before you hand in the answer script to the invigilators.
