Don't concern yourself with following the steps outlined in a book. Understand the overall concept and start playing and practicing. Start experimenting with your own version of mindfulness and what will probably happen is you'll discover what really works for you in mindfulness and it may or may not be a carbon copy of what the 'experts' say.
