Midway, Kentucky distillery murders and lynching

In 1920 a distillery in Midway, Kentucky was robbed and two guards were killed. A Black man was apprehended, charged, and tried for one killing, and was found guilty. When the jury deadlocked 11-1 in favor of the death penalty, a mob took the convicted man from his jail cell and lynched him from a tree on the outskirts of Versailles, Kentucky.
