CDOs and the Financial Crisis

It cannot be denied that CDOs were front and center during the financial crisis. There is a dissenting opinion to the popular pointed finger, it holds that CDS and CDOs allowed for the hedging and spread of risk across the market and prevented a much greater calamity. Personally, I saw this firsthand, however, as to the magnitude of the positive aspects of this technology...I remain unconvinced.
