Reveiw of NGO Consultation at the United Nations

Following the unprecedented participation of NGOs in the preparations for the 1992 Earth Summit and the attention given in Agenda 21 to the need and importance of broad-participation by Major Groups in decision-making relating to sustainable development, the Economic and Social Council decide a Review of Arrangements for consultation was needed, leading to changes adopted in ECOSOC Resolution 1996/31. This was followed by the General Assembly convening an Open-Ended Working Group on the Review of Arrangements for Consultations with Non-Governmental Organizations.
