CREW V. Central Intelligence Agency

2 Apr 2007 // Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) sued the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for failing to fulfill a CREW Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for documents regarding communication between the CIA and the White House regarding Valerie Plame Wilson and Joseph Wilson. The documents were sought to determine if the White House and CIA conspired to release Valerie Plame Wilson’s identity to the media in retaliation for Joseph Wilson’s criticism of the Bush administration claim that Iraq sought weapons of mass destruction. The CIA failed to comply with CREW’s request for documents in the time required by the FOIA. CREW sued the CIA for compliance with the FOIA and release of the requested documents.
