Process IV: Medical Surgical Nursing
Unit I: Oxygen Needs: Alteration in Tissue Perfusion/Immune/ Sexual Reproductive Functions. Level IV: Outcome Criteria Communicator: Upon completion of the program, the graduate will independently and in collaboration with health team members, clients, families, and significant others, incorporate effective therapeutic communication techniques in promoting health and preventing illness among people from culturally, ethnically, and socially diverse backgrounds with varied health care needs. UNIT OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of selected learning experiences, the student will be able to: 1. Describe the functions and component of the immune system 2. Describe the etiologic factors, clinical manifestations, and treatment modalities of autoimmune diseases 3. Describe the Pathophysiology of HIV infection 4. Outline HIV disease progression in the spectrum of untreated infection 5. Describe the nursing management of HIV infected patients and HIV- at-Risk patients 6. Describe the process involved in the biology of Cancer 7. Explain the use of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and biologic and targeted therapy in the treatment of Cancer 8. Discuss the classifications of chemotherapeutic agents and their method of administration 9. Describe the nursing management of patients receiving chemotherapy, Radiation therapy, and biologic targeted therapy 10. Describe the psychologic support interventions for cancer patients, cancer survivors, and family members 11. Describe the structure and function of the hematologic system 12. Differentiate normal and common abnormal findings in a physical assessment of the hematologic system 13. Describe the etiology, clinical manifestation, nursing and collaborative management of neutropenia 14. Identify evidenced-based nursing interventions at the individual, family, local and global community levels 15.
