Windmill Jumper

Materials:

4 balls Main Colour MC 1 ball Contrast Colour CC 50g/130m A-Maizing 100% corn Machine wash, Tumble dry. 5mm needles straight and one set double pointed(DPNs) Tapestry needle To fit 2-4 years, (6-8 years) Notes: 1) This is a modular Jumper based on the BASIC SQUARE. Great for adjusting fit and size. The garter stitch used is very very stretchy and will stretch to fit a larger size. 2) Increase by KFB: Knitting into front and back of stitch. 3) Sizes given are approximate. Please check your tension. 4) To increase size of Jumper, increase FINAL stitch count for each square. 2 sizes given, Adult sizes possible just by increasing the FINAL stitch count before decreasing. 5) Join yarn at the edges to avoid unsightly BASIC SQUARE: Cast on 2 st. Row 1: K2. Row 2: Increasing starts here KFB twice. (4 st) Row 3: KFB k2 KFB (6 st) Row 4: KFB k4 KFB (8 st) Increase in this way until you have a total of 40 st (this is your FINAL Stitch Count) on your needles. Knit 1 row without any increases (This is the MIDDLE row of your BASIC SQUARE) Start decreases: Dec row: K1, ssk, k to last 3 st, k2tog, k1. Decrease this way until you have 4 st left. Next row: Ssk, k2tog. Turn. K2tog, fasten off. Tension: This BASIC SQUARE measures 13.5 cm x 13.5 cm. Back: With MC, Knit the BASIC SQUARE to 75 (85) st, knit the MIDDLE row, then decrease to fasten off.

Front: With MC: Knit the BASIC SQUARE to 40 (45) st. Change to CC and knit the MIDDLE row, then decrease in CC. Make 4 of these pieces. Sleeves: With MC: Knit the BASIC SQUARE to 50 (55) st, then decrease. Make 2 of these. With CC: Knit the BASIC SQUARE to 50 (55) st, then decrease. Make 2 of these. (Alternative: Use MC to increase and CC to decrease) Finishing: Join together 4 pieces of the FRONT neatly arranging the MC and CC alternately to look like a windmill. Join Shoulders: Divide the squares into thirds along one edge. mark with waste yarn. Using a back stitch, join the shoulders on both outer thirds of the squares. (If bigger neck needed, join outer quarters.) Join one MC and one CC square for first sleeve. Position the joining line to the shoulder seam, pin sleeve to front and back, adjusting for the depth of the armhole, sew in place. Repeat for other sleeve. Sew up the side seams. Cuffs: Using DPNs, pick up 50 (55) st in MC along the cuff edge. Knit one row MC, 4 rows CC, 4 rows MC, 2 rows CC. Cast off in MC loosely. Lower edge: Using DPNs and either MC or CC, pick up 90 (100) st along the lower edges. Knit 9 rows. Cast off loosely. Sew in ends. A quick knit thats easy!
