Metoprolol (lopresor) 786 - Antianginals/antihypertensive/beta-blockers - Hypertension, angina pectoris, prevention of MI and decreased morality in pts with recent MI.

Blocks stimulation of Beta1. - IV onset immediate, peak 20 mins, 5-8 hrs - SE: fatigue, weakness, bradycardia, CHF, pulmonary edema, impotence. - Monitor VS and ECGs q5-15 min during administration and for several hours after. Monitor ins and outs, daily weights. - May cause increase in BUN, serum lipoprotein, potassium, triglyceride, uric acid levels, and blood glucose.

Midazolam (versed) 793 - Antianxiety agent/sedative/benzodiazepines - Provides sedation, anxiolysis, amnesia during therapeutic, diagnostic or radiographic procedures. As a continuous infusion it offers sedation of mechanically ventilated pts in a critical care setting. - IV onset 1.5-5min; peak rapid; duration 2-6hrs - SE: respiratory depression, cardiac arrest, apnea, phlebitis at IV site - Dose: 0.01-0.05mg/kg loading dose is required then repeat q 10-15 min until effect is acquired. - Monitor BP, P, and resp - Antidote is flumazenil (romazicon)

Narcan (Naloxone) 834 - Antidotes for opiods - Reversal and of CNS and respiratory depression because of suspected. - IV onset 1-2min; peak unknown; duration >45min - SE: hypo and hypertension, ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia - Dose: 0.02-.2 mg q2-3min until response obtained repeat 1-2 hr if needed. - Assess for opiod withdrawal, pain levels - Minimal toxicity

Zofran (ondansetron) 886 - Antiemetics/prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with chemo and radiation. Prevention of nausea and vomiting post op. - IV onset rapid; peak 40 min; duration unknown - SE: headache, constipation, diarrhea - May cause increased serum bilirubin, AST, and ALT levels.

Pantoloc (pantoprazole) 920 - Antiulcer agents/protein pump inhibitor - Decreases the accumulation of acid in the gastric lumen, with lessened acid reflux. Healing of duodenal ulcers and esophagitis. - IV onset 2.5 hrs; peak unknown; duration 1 wk - SE: headache, abd pain, flatus, diarrhea - Dose: 40mg one a day for 7-10 days - May cause abnormal liver function tests - Do not break crush or chew tablets

Dilantin (phenytoin) 949 - Treatment/prevention of grand mal seizures and complex partial seizures. Antiepileptic. - IV onset 1-2hr; peak rapid; duration 12-24hrs - SE: ataxia, diplopia, nystagmus, hypotension, nausea, gingival hyperplasia, nausea, hypertrichosis, rashes, agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, stevens-johnson syndrome. - Dose: 15-18mg PE/kg - Monitor labs CBC and platlet count, serum calcium, albumin, urinalysis, and hepatic and thyroid function tests - Serum phenytoin levels should be monitored (1020mcg/mL)
