Recommendations: Use a dedicated server and a dedicated IIS installation for the TestDirector Application Server. No other Web-based applications should be installed or should be using the IIS installation that is dedicated to TestDirector. If you are using a database other than Microsoft Access, install the database server software on a separate server from the one used by the TestDirector Application Server. Install TestDirector by logging in to your Web server machine directly not through any remote utilities.
Note that to install TestDirector you must have full administrator privileges on your Web server machine and full control privileges on the TestDirector domains.

In the License No. box, type the license number supplied to you when you purchased TestDirector. If you do not have a license number, you can select the Use Evaluation Key check box for a 60-day trial version of TestDirector.
Note: If you are upgrading from a previous TestDirector version, and the current TestDirector installation does not recognize your previous license number, contact Mercury Interactive Customer Support for a new license number.
22
Note: You can modify your license number using the Site Administrator. For more information, refer to the TestDirector Administrators Guide.
3 If you are a licensed user, in the Maintenance No. box, type the maintenance number supplied to you with your shipment of TestDirector. 4 Read the license agreement. TestDirector uses the mail service to send e-mails to users in a TestDirector project. To use a different mail service, verify that Select a Mail Service Option is selected, and select one of the mail service options: SMTP Server: The SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) Server option uses a server on the network for sending mail. This option is recommended because TestDirector uses Windows Sockets to send mail directly to your mail server. Note that this option supports HTML format. Type the address of the SMTP server available on your local area network. If you do not know the SMTP server address, contact your mail or system administrator. Note that the SMTP protocol uses port 25. Make sure that this port is not blocked by your firewall.
29
Windows MAPI: The Windows MAPI (Mail Application Programming Interface) option uses a local Windows messaging application profile. This option is enabled if a mail application supporting MAPI is installed on your machine, for example, Microsoft Outlook 2000 or Lotus Notes. Note that this option does not support HTML format. Select a profile name. Note that if you have Microsoft Outlook Express installed, select Default. For information on creating a profile, see How to Set Up a Profile for the Windows MAPI Option on page 62. Microsoft IIS SMTP Service: The SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) Service option uses a local server on your machine for sending mail. This option is enabled if you installed Microsoft IIS SMTP Service during the Microsoft IIS installation. Note that this option supports HTML format. For more information on installing this option, see How to Set Up the Microsoft IIS SMTP Service Option on page 61.
Note: You can use the TD Servers tab in the Site Administrator to modify your TestDirector mail service option. For more information, refer to the TestDirector Administrators Guide.
