City Council Approves Library Bonds


Westfield Washington Public Library Board of Trustees: Mike Thomas, President Carolyn Wheeler, Vice President Paul Catlin, Treasurer Mic Mead, Secretary Nancy Knochel Dan Pitcock David Weiss The Library Board meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

At their meeting on Monday, June 11, the Westfield City Council voted to approve the bonds for the Westfield Washington Public Library Renovation, Space Reallocation and Addition Plan. These plans were based on a 2009 patron survey, and the librarys Board of Trustees voted at their February 2012 meeting to move forward with the project pending the Councils approval. The plans include: A Dedicated Computer Lab Quiet Study Rooms A Community/Library Programming Room A Dedicated Area for Teen Patrons Now we have to finalize the plans, issue the bonds, and arrange for the necessary construction documents. Parking issues will also be addressed as the plan progresses. The board meeting minutes and some gently used office furniture packets are posted on the librarys from the Carmel Clay Public Library. This furniture will replace website at www.wwpl.lib.in.us. some of the existing office furniture. The Operating Fund (or General Fund) is used to operate the facility, for example salaries, materials, supplies, utilities, etc. The revenue received for the Operating Fund includes property taxes, income taxes, fines and fees. When issuing the bonds for the renovation, space reallocation and addition project, the library may not use money from the Lease Rental/Debt Service Fund to pay for anything other than the purpose stated.

Recycle Your Paper at the Library!


Our paper recycling bin has arrived and is located at the south end of the parking lot. All funds from this program will go to Friends of the Westfield Library to be used to support library programs. What can go in this bin: Yes, Please Newspaper and Inserts Magazines/Catalogs including all slick paper with the exception of any paper coated in wax. Office/School Papers Window envelopes, paperback books, workbooks and staples. Shredded paper, but please bag it first. This does not include colored paper, wrapping or tissue paper, carbon paper or sticky notes. Mail Please recycle the mail that you feel comfortable putting in our recycling bin. No, Thanks.. Weve got Matinee Movies: Based on the Book at the library! Go Between the Covers with our series of movies based on popular books. Join us on one Saturday each month at 1 p.m. as we screen some fantastic films. The film on July 14 is The Help. Refreshments will be served. Why buy a ticket when you can see movies for FREE at WWPL! Almost everybody has a digital camera, but the results can often be disappointing. On Thursday, July 19, at 5:30 p.m., learn some tips and techniques like lighting, composition, downloading your photos and storing them. There will be a question and answer session, too. Teens Only Movie The Teens Only Movie is Tuesday, July 17, at 6 p.m. The movie is Who Framed Roger Rabbit (Touchstone Pictures PG), a groundbreaking interaction between live and animated characters about a toon hating detective who is a cartoon rabbit's only hope to prove his innocence when he is accused of murder. Baby Love Birth to 18 Months Thursdays at 10:15 a.m. July 12, 19 and 26 Give your child a head start to early literacy with this unique program of rhyme, play and song. Free Storytime Storytime is every Monday and Tuesday. Miss Vicki brings you stories, songs, fingerplays and rhymes. There is also an art project, craft, or activity afterward. Times on Monday are 10:30 a.m. for Toddlers (18 months to 3 1/2 accompanied by a caregiver) and 1 p.m. for Preschoolers (3 1/2 Kindergarten). Calling all Friends


The Friends needs you to volunteer as little as one hour of your time to help the library as a cashier at one of the Book Sales. Please contact Sandy at 317-8969391. We cant do it without YOU!

Membership is open to any individual, family, or One part of the Friends organization. Memberships are fundraising efforts is Book Sales. There is always a special Preview valid for one year from the date of purchase. Sale for Friends members on Friday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., then the sale is open to the Annual Dues: general public during regular library hours from Saturday Staff $5 through the following Saturday.
