Claiming that Cinderella isnt a heroine and her cruel stepmother shouldnt be considered evil sound so absurd to the

fairytale fanatics like me. But then, after internalizingtrying to define what the word heroine and evil means, well, my mind is pinched with a fact that I may just be believing something which is absolutely obsolete(since I realized that my Cinderella thoughts is undeniably a part of my innocent and stupid childhood beliefs). First stop is reasoning why Cinderella shouldnt be regarded as a heroine. I have three main points. One, a heroine is someone who advocated a change for the benefit of many. In the case of the story of poor Cinderella, she never had a valiant acteverything about her lifes incidence were brought by either fate or magic and her destiny is solely hers, no one benefit from it except her. Two, the story itself covers a shallow theme of how destiny works to set one towards his true love. The fact that it mainly revolved around misery and romance made it impossible to highly regard the protagonist as a hero. And, there is only a single conflict in the tale and it is the tussle between Cinderella and her foster family. It is therefore not viable to claim that the turning point in Cinderellas life is the fruit of the success of her intense combat. Lastly, if theres someone i the story who deserves the credit to be the heroine, she no other than the fairy Godmother who uses her supernatural power in order to provide a better life for Cinderella. How the former uses her might is basically the grounds which suspended the cruelty of the antagonists and the triumph of good against evil. Nonetheless, it is only her who makes the change which affected all parties. The stepmother of Cinderella shouldnt be considered evil. Why? Defending this stand will not be easy for me since Id hated her since then. Yet, I may not pass the dirty game I play with Semantics if I will not use this confusion in arriving at a definite answer. So, going back, the reason may be because an evil-doer is someone who has a callous heart and sees no good nor feels a conscience bothering him. Because the stepmom had been so protected and loving of her two daughters(which says shes good at some point), she acted like the living melancholy of Cinderella. Trying to bring the best of her daughters, her enviousness to the more beautiful and crowd-favored Cinderella made her appear to be bad. Moreover, philosophically speaking, she should not be considered evil first because her intentions is not evil and she just did that cruelty because something triggers herbut deep within her heart, she may just be blinded by her desire to punish Cinderella. Second thing, the act she did is a form of slavery. And slavery during early years in Greece (where the original story was based/ written) was a natural association among masters and slaves. It is an accepted norm and it does not go against the values of the society then. In this case, how then a master can be considered evil if its her privilege to own a slave? To sum it up, to be a hero is doing something ideal not for your sake but for the advantage of many. It entails a lot of battle-winnings, an exceptional victorious quest for good and an extraordinary strength to face all the adversaries caused by the villains. Its not just to uplift oneself and end up living a good life but its mere about inspiring other peoples life and leaving some legacy to them. However, to be evil is having a genuine ability to stir the world and fill it with gloom. Its about forgetting everything about being morally upright and going against the norms and values accepted by the society. Its not simply committing sin but its intentionally bearing evil fruits without feeling any guilt at all.
