Single Sided Aluma Beam and Superslim Soldier Wall Formwork Erection Procedures and Guidance Notes
Please note this is a five page document. 1 Introduction It is essential that the procedures are read and fully understood prior to the use of the equipment. This guidance note is for the erection, use and dismantling of typical single sided Aluma Beam and Superslim Soldier wall formwork. It is recommended that all site personnel / operatives using this equipment should first familiarise themselves with these procedures and guidance notes and shall be read in conjunction with CJ OShea (Plant Hire) Ltd drawing(s). It is the customers responsibility to assimilate this information into a document specific to site conditions. These procedures and guidance notes are not to be used as a working method statement. 2 Health and Safety This document does not remove the customers responsibility to provide suitably trained and competent site personnel / operatives for the safe erection, dismantling and use of this equipment. Please refer to Appendix A on page four of this document. 3 3.1 3.2 Design Criteria The formwork has been designed for a specific concrete pressure. Concrete pressure is derived from many variables, such as concrete group, concrete temperature, concrete rate of rise in the form, and the form height. Foundations are required to provide stability and restraint to the formwork. The customer is responsible for ensuring the foundations are capable of withstanding the applied loads shown on the CJ OShea (Plant Hire) Ltd drawing(s). CJ OShea (Plant Hire) Ltd drawing(s) clearly show all design criteria. The customer is advised to approve of the drawing(s), prior to the delivery of equipment. Any discrepancies to be brought to the attention of CJ OShea (Plant Hire) Ltd drawing office. Any site amendments to be approved by CJ OShea (Plant Hire) Ltd drawing office, prior to erecting equipment / commencing pour. References Please refer to Appendix A on page four of this document. Additional method statements and contract drawings may be provided by the contractor. 5 5.1 Assembling the Formwork Provide a clean and clear area adequate in size to assemble the shutters, and within reach and capacity of cranes. 1

Assemble Superslim soldiers end to end using 4 no. M16 x 40 grade 8.8 fasteners at each joint. Where shown, use Superslim joint stiffeners. Ensure all fasteners are correctly tightened. 5.3 Position assembled soldiers at the correct centres on levelled trestles or blocks. Align the ends of the soldiers. 5.4 Set the top and bottom Aluma Beams and secure them to the soldiers. Check the soldier centres and the diagonals to ensure the shutter is square before positioning and securing the remaining Aluma Beams. Use the supplied J clamps and the attachment sequence note shown on the drawing, generally one J clamp fixing per beam on alternate sides of the soldier. 5.5 Attach the Superslim lifting plates to the appropriate soldiers using a M20 x 90 grade 8.8 fastener and hand tighten. 5.6 Bolt on anchor plates to the bottom of each soldier using 5 no. M16 x 40 grade 8.8 countersunk fasteners and tighten. 5.7 Nail or screw any timber styles that may be required to the end of the Aluma Beam timber inserts 5.8 Nail or screw the plywood sheets to the Aluma Beams and fill the heads if required. 5.9 Carefully mark out the positions and drill holes for the dividag tie system to be used. 5.10 Apply OShea Mould Oil or an appropriate release agent in accordance with the suppliers instructions. 6 Handling the Formwork Assembled formwork panels are crane handled using a spreader beam to prevent horizontal loads being carried up the vertical soldiers. Note: CJ OShea (Plant Hire) Ltd, does not supply chains, shackles, slings etc. 7 7.1 7.2 7.3 8 Access Platform Attach the crane and turn the shutter over. Take care and avoid damaging the ply face. Attach the Superslim access brackets to the vertical soldier portholes ustilising the integral fastener. Place and secure scaffold board platform, toe boards with clips and tube and fittings guardrail. Installing the Formwork The formwork pressure is resisted in part by utilising Superslim heavy duty push pull props. These are usually attached to the shutter as described below. The safe erection and stability of the reinforcement cage is the responsibility of the customer, and should be covered in the contract method statement. 8.1 Assemble the push pull props with the Superslim soldiers as shown on the drawing. Attach a left hand jack to one end of the prop and a right hand jack at the other. Attach the jacks to the soldiers with 4 no. M16 x 40 grade 8.8 fasteners. Ensure left hand and right hand jacks are positioned the same on each prop for ease of operation. Attach a spade end Link at one end of the prop and a tilt plate at the other using M24 x 110 grade 8.8 fasteners. Lift and position the shutter. Install the heavy duty push pull props prior to removing the lifting equipment. Connect 2

the spade end link to the vertical soldier with a prop pivot tube, ensuring the integral Rclip is secured. Bolt the tilt plate to a suitable foundation with OShea Anchor Bolts. Remove all lifting equipment. Rotating the heavy duty push pull props will plumb the shutter. Where more than two heavy duty push pull props are required on a shutter, suggest plumbing the shutter with two props and fixing the remaining props once the shutter is plumb. Bolt down all the anchor plates to the foundation with OShea Anchor Bolts. Ensure anchors are placed in the front end of any slots so they accept shear loads without undue movement of the shutter. Install any scaffold tube bracing to the props if shown on CJ OShea (Plant Hire) Ltd drawing(s). Lift and position the stop-end shutter(s). Using the Formwork Prior to placing concrete a check of the shutter should be conducted to ensure that all bolts are tight and that the heavy duty push pull props are firm. The shutter should be surveyed for line and plumb. Place the concrete by a method and rate such that the design criteria is not exceeded. There may be information on the CJ OShea (Plant Hire) Ltd drawing(s) regarding the sequence or location of concrete placement. On completion of the pour, the customer is advised to hose down the shutter to remove any unwanted concrete.

Striking the Formwork Un-bolt all of the anchor plate foundation fixings. Un-bolt the heavy duty push pull prop tilt plates from the foundation. Leave in place the fixings to the minimum number of heavy duty push pull prop tilt plates necessary to prevent the shutter(s) falling over. Disconnect and remove the heavy duty push pull props one by one. Leave in place those still fixed to the foundation. Disconnect any fixings to any stop-end shutters. Ease the shutter away from the concrete face by retracting the heavy duty push pull props. Do not use the lifting equipment to pull the shutter off the concrete. Attach lifting equipment to the shutter and remove the fixings to the tilt plates. Lift the shutter without the heavy duty push pull props away from the concrete and store. Attach the lifting equipment to the stop-end shutter and take the weight. Ease the stop-end shutter away from the concrete face. Do not use the lifting equipment to pull the stop-end shutter off the concrete. Lift the stop-end shutter away from the concrete and store. After each pour the shutter should be checked and the face cleaned with OShea Mould Oil or a suitable release agent.

Dismantling the Formwork Dismantle the shutters in reverse sequence to the above erection procedure. Clean and Place the dismantled components in the supplied stillages, and return the equipment to CJ OShea (Plant Hire) Ltd.
