Our SMARTRUSS system is developed using LYSAGHT SMARTCADD software which designs the roof and details the manufacture of all the roof components - which reduces errors. LYSAGHT SMARTRUSS is manufactured from high strength, long life ZINCALUME steel. SMARTCADD is a comprehensive, user friendly software package for the complete modelling, analysis and design of domestic buildings. This includes the generation of relevent drawings, reports, and rollformer output. Another excellent feature is electronic ordering of materials, making SMARTCADD a turnkey solution for the complete engineering and ordering of domestic buildings. SMARTCADD is suitable for house framing and smaller commercial buildings. It is the first to comply with Chinese standards. SMARTCADD software is developed in-house to Chinese standards and comply with the results of various tests performed at Lysaght Technology, Chester Hill, NSW, Australia. ZINCALUME steel is particularly suitable for house frame applications and a minimum lifespan of 75 years can be expected. ZINCALUME steel performs better both in the field and in accelerated corrosion resistance tests. It provides far better corrosion protection and in most applications will give double the life compared to galvanised (zinc coated) steel.

Steel claddings have stood the test of time on buildings, but it's the protective layer on the steel that makes the critical difference in performance not, as is sometimes thought, the paint. BlueScope Steel's ZINCALUME steel exhibits superior long life because its aluminium-zinc coating has a different metallurgical composition and unique microstructure. BlueScope Steel Australia commissioned the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) to conduct a study which evaluated the thermal performance of a typical home in a for hot climate using different roofing materials.

Greater Thermal Comfort

The study shows that a roof made from BlueScope Steel roofing materials offers the home owner greater thermal comfort and ongoing cost savings than a red tile roof for the life of the dwelling. As shown in figure, for houses without insulation, a roof made from ZINCALUME steel will typically keep the house 2.5C to 6C cooler than a similar house with a red tile roof. On the hottest of days, the difference can be as high as 8.8C. Most people feel comfortable at or just below 28C~30C. Even a small increase above this threshold of even 1C or 2C can cause people to feel uncomfortable. Therefore, even a small temperature reduction provided by a ZINCALUME steel roof greatly improves comfort levels inside the house.

Reduced Life Time Cooling Cost

The cost of cooling a dwelling increases the more the building materials absorb external heat and radiation. In a house without insulation, a roof made from ZINCALUME steel offers a 63% reduction (or using Off White Improved CleanCOLORBOND steel a 33% reduction) in the cooling bill over that for a similar house with a red tiled roof. The CSIRO study suggests that on a hot day the maximum temperature inside a house with a roof made from ZINCALUME steel is significantly lower than the temperature inside an equivalent house with a red tile roof under the conditions of both insulated and uninsulated cases.
