Inductive Loads (Panel Mount) High voltage transients may occur switching inductive loads. Through the internal contacts these transients may introduce disturbances which can affect the instrument performance. For all outputs, the internal protection (varistor) assures a correct protection up to 0.5 A of inductive component. The same problems may occur when a switch is used in series with the internal contacts as shown:

Relay output: Inductive component protected by varistor against inductive load with inductive component up to 0.5A. OUT 2: Contact rating of 2 Amps/250 Vac resistive load. OUT 3: Contact rating of 2 Amps/250 Vac resistive load. Number of operations;1 x 105 at the specified rating. NOTES: 1) To avoid shock and possible instrument damage, connect power last. 2) For power connections use 16 AWG or larger wires rated for 75C. 3) Use copper conductors only. 4) Do not run input wires with power cables.

External Switch in Series with Internal Contact In this case it is recommended to install an additional RC network across the external contact as shown above. The value of capacitor (C) and resistor (R) are shown in the following table. Load (mA) < 40 mA < 150 mA < 0.5 A C (F) R(ohms) P(W) Op. Volt. 0.047 100 1/2 260 Vac 0.1 22 2 260 Vac 0.33 47 2 260 Vdc

Operating Key Functions: FUNC = In normal display mode, press for less than 3 seconds to start parameter modification; press 3 to 10 seconds to change indication in lower display (see "Display Function"); press longer than ten seconds to initiate lamp test. (See "Lamp Test" paragraph). During parameter modification, FUNC memorizes new value and moves to next parameter (in increasing order). MAN = Press for more than1 second to enable or disable manual function. During parameter modification, scrolls back without memorizing new setting. s = During parameter modification, increases the value of the selected parameter. In MANUAL mode, it increases output value. t = During parameter modification, decreases the value of the selected parameter. In MANUAL mode, decreases output value s+MAN = During parameter modification they allow to jump to the maximum programmable value. t+MAN = During parameter modification they allow to jump to the minimum programmable value. NOTE: A 10 or 30 second timeout (P36) can be selected for parameter modification. If no keys are pressed during this time period, the instrument automatically goes to the normal display mode and the last parameter is NOT changed.

ENABLE/DISABLE THE CONTROL OUTPUT With the instrument in the normal display mode, press and hold (for 5 seconds) the s key and the FUNC key in order to disable the control outputs. The device will then function as an indicator. All control outputs will be OFF and the word OFF will be shown in the lower display (note that the outputs may be affected by parameters P18 and P20). Alarms will be in a non-alarm condition. The alarm output condition depends on the alarm action type (see P24-P26). Press and hold (for 5 seconds) the s key and the FUNC key a second time to restore the control status. If the alarm standby function has been configured, alarms will respond as though it were a powerup condition. Lamp Test To verify the display efficiency, push FUNC button for more than 10 seconds. The instrument will turn on with a 50% duty cycle all LEDs. Lamp test does not time out to return to normal display mode, push FUNC button again. During lamp test, the instrument continues to control the process, but keyboard functions are not available, except FUNC. SP/SP2 Selection The operating setpoint (SP or SP2) can be switched only by an external contact .

Manual Function The manual mode can be accessed (if P34 = On) by pressing the MAN key for more than 1 second. The command is accepted and executed only if the display is in the normal display mode. When in the manual mode the MAN LED is flashing and the lower display shows the power output values. The value of the reverse acting output is shown in the two most significant digits while the value of the direct acting output (if present) is shown in the two least significant digits. The decimal point between the two values will be flashing to indicate the instrument is in the manual mode. " is used for "rEV"= 100. Note: " " " is used for "dir"= 100. The power output can be modified by using the s and t keys. The output resolution is 1%. Press and hold (for 2 seconds) the MAN key again to return the device to the AUTO mode. The transfer from AUTO to MANUAL and back is bumpless (this function is not provided if integral action is excluded). If the transfer from AUTO to MANUAL occurs during the first part of the autotuning (Smart AT) alogrithm (TUNE), turning back to AUTO, the instrument will be automatically forced to the second part of the autotuning algoritym (ADAPTIVE). At power-up, the device will be in the AUTO mode or as it was left prior to power shutdown (depending on P35).
32

Note: When start-up occurs in the Manual mode with power output set to 0, the control outputs will be in accordance with the following formula: "rEV" output - "dir" output = 0 Setpoint Access When the device is in the AUTO mode and in the normal display mode, it is possible to directly access either setpoint (SP or SP2). Press the s or t key (and hold for 2 seconds); the setpoint will start to change. 2) Once the desired setting is reached, wait 2 seconds before pressing a key and the new setpoint will be used. 1) Serial Link This instrument can be connected to a host computer by a serial link. The host computer can then put the instrument in either LOCAL (functions and parameters are controlled with the keys) or REMOTE (functions and parameters are controlled via serial link). REMOTE is signified by the LED labeled RMT. It is also possible to download the instrument configuration through the serial link. The necessary conditions to implement this function are:

1)

Serial parameters SEr1 to SEr4 must be properly configured from the keys. 2) The device must be in the OPERATING mode. During downloading of the configuration, the instrument goes into open loop control with all outputs in the OFF state. At the end of the configuration procedure, the instrument performs an automatic reset and returns to closed loop control. Autotuning (Smart AT) Functon Autotuning is used to automatically optimize the control action. To enable autotuning, press the FUNC key until the Snrt parameter is shown. Press the s or t key to set the display to On and then press the FUNC key. The AT LED will turn on or begin flashing according to the selected algorithm. When autotuning is enabled, the control parameters can be displayed but not modified. To disable autotuning, press the FUNC key again until the Snrt parameter is shown. Press the s or t key to set the display to OFF and press the FUNC key again. The AT LED will turn off. Once autotuning is turned off, the instrument maintains the calculated control parameters, but allows the parameters to be modified. NOTE: 1) When ON/OFF control is programmed (Pb=0), autotuning is disabled. 2) Autotune enable/disable can be protected by the safety key (see P30).
33
