Definition and Scope of SMS
•   Safety Management System = ICAO concept for States
•   Airline SMS = Global enhanced approach to Airline Flight Safety
•   SMS doesn’t start from scratch
•   Management of Safety is the new concept (Organization, Indicators,
Targets)
•   SMS scope: Mainly proactive and predictive Safety
Prevention
  “SMS is not just a new "buzzword" to replace "system safety "” (FAA)
   “SMS is the next logical step in system safety evolution” (FAA)
•   This Operator SMS course doesn’t cover:
  Maintenance SMS
  FRMS (Fatigue Risk Management)
