GOD Showed them there was Abundant provision from His Hand.
AT THIS MOUNTAIN this large, loosely organized people bound by blood relation and collective experience of slavery was to be radically TRANSFORMED with a NEW sense of Government Focus - Destiny! They were NOT wholly devoted to GOD of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob! As clearly seen when Aaron made the 'Golden calf' and told the people HERE's the god that delivered you from Egypt! MOSES SPENT 40 years in the wilderness prior to Delivering the people. - 40 years away from the Palace, Pride, Power and Prestige of EGYPT- now the People needed the same YOU've heard it said, You can take the boy out of the city, but you can't take 40 years the city out of the boy! --in a desert WELL GOD CAN - give the time.... BOOT CAMP!

At Kadesh, Moses also disobeyed God by striking the rock to bring forth water (20:8-11). He had been told to speak, not strike the rock. Soon after Moses and the people began to move from Kadesh toward Canaan, Aaron died and was buried (20:23-29). The events at Kadesh Barnea clearly demonstrate the peril of rebelling against God's appointed leaders, murmuring and complaining about God's directions, and refusing to follow God's orders. Let us be a people being willing to follow God at all Cost!

IT WASN'T SO much a punishment as it was to SAVE THEM, KEEP THEM, CLEAN THEM, SECURE THEM and ACCOMPLISH WHAT HE PROMISED to Abraham! GOD WAS GOING TO SEE THIS THROUGH! Incident after incident GOD Corrected, Instructed, Purged, Protected and Provided! UNTIL THEY GOT to a point where they GOT IT Because of their fear and rebellion at Kadesh (Deut 9:23), the Israelites were forced to wander in the Wilderness of Paran for 38 years. Kadesh apparently was their headquarters while they moved about during these years. In the first month of the 40 th year of the Exodus, the people again assembled at Kadesh for their final march to the Promised Land. While they were still camped at Kadesh, a number of the leaders of the people rebelled against Moses and Aaron (Num 16:1-3).
