TWO DRYDEN EMPLOYEES WIN TOP NASA SAFETY AWARDS

Two employees of NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air

Force Base have been honored with the agency's Quality and Safety
Achievement Recognition award for contributing to the awareness and
leadership of safety efforts at Dryden.

Tom Ambrose, chief of Dryden's Safety, Health and Environmental

Office, and Dryden videographer / producer Lori Losey will receive
their awards this Friday evening from NASA Administrator Michael
Griffin at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The awards acknowledge persons who have contributed to significant

quality improvements to products and services for NASA, as well as
safety initiatives, programs, processes and management activities.
The awards are presented in four categories: NASA employees within
and outside of the Safety and Mission Assurance directorate, a NASA
prime contractor or subcontractor and an employee from another
government agency.

Ambrose will receive the award in the NASA Safety and Mission
Assurance category for his dedicated leadership as Chief of Dryden's
Safety, Health, and Environmental team. Ambrose has been an outspoken
advocate for safety and has been a true innovator in his field. He
has received international recognition for the development of a radio
frequency Identification system by his team to efficiently track the
movement and storage of highly hazardous materials. Losey, an
employee of Arcata Associates, won the NASA Contractor Employee award
for producing a DVD on the X-31 accident that occurred in January
1995 just north of Edwards Air Force Base. Losey put the lessons
learned from the loss of the X-31 research airplane into a
documentary that leaves a lasting impression on its viewers.

Ambrose was cited for "diligence and professional leadership in

improving the safety and well being of NASA personnel and the public.
The Safety, Health, & Environmental Office is recognized as "best of
the best" in many programs. His passion and support for innovation
and safety has resulted in the ChemSecure project, recognized by
multiple government agencies, industry and the international press as
having the ability to improve the safety and security of the nation."

In her nomination, Losey was cited for "distinguishing herself, Arcata

Associates, and NASA by producing the professional "X-31: Breaking
the Chain" lessons-learned story. She made major contributions to the
safety and well being of NASA fight crew personnel, control room
operations and overall mission assurance."
