Why To Use PSAX: Suppose Telecard wants to Offer Telephony Services in HYD, to make this happen. Two types of services are needed. DPLC ( Digital Private Leased Circuit) and DIU(E1 / Trunking Service of PTCL). By Deploying PSAX at HYD and KHI, we can compress Upto 8 E1s on a Single DPLC of 2 mbps. Hence saving costs in terms of Pretty expensive Leased Circuits. OVERVIEW PSAX-2300 (Lucent Packet Star) is a multi service media gateway, which supports DPLC, ATM & Frame Relay.

Whenever Ethernet Cable is plugged into the PC. Plz ensure the IP Settings are as follows. IP: 192.168.166.6 / 27 SB: 255.255.255.224 GW: 192.168.166.1 Run > CMD > Telnet IP of the Desired PSAX PSAX Are deployed at following Locations. Karachi: 192.168.166.5 Hyderabad: 192.168.166.34 Sukkur: 192.168.166.66 Quetta: 192.168.166.194 For complete Details See the Visio Diagram Right Above the SDH NMS Table. If all goes well, Following window will be displayed.

USER ID of Every PSAX is readwrite and PWD is TeleCard789 After Logging, In You will come Across the Following Menu.

Site Specific Configuration (1st option) For the Configuration of Hostname, IP Address and to see PSAX Temperature.

None of the Parameters have to be changed here. Each DPLC has the bandwidth of 2 Mbps and by using Compression PSAX can multiplexed upto 8 E1s on a single DPLC. Below mentioned calculation will help you understand its configuration. Data Rate of Each E1 is 2.048Mbps. OR 2048000bps OR 256 KBPS Per Frame of ATM consists of 53 Bytes. Hence Max. ATM Frames on 2 Mb E1s will be 256000/53 = 4830 Please Note that Each Signaling E1 utilizes 625 ATM Frames. Non Signaling E1 utilizes 450 ATM Frames. For Optimum working, 4700 ATM Frames are utilized.

Equipment Configuration Menu. (2nd Option)

As you can see, All Cards(Slot 1 17) are shown above. Luckily Ethernet(Slot 2) is not In use. HDE1 Cards are plugged into Slot 1 and 4 and DSP Cards are plugged into 3rd 5th and 6th Slot. Each DSP2D Card supports 10 Compressed E1s. If We want to explore HD-E1 Card of Slot 1. Select and press enter. Below mentioned Menu will open.

Here Status Of All 21 Physical Ports is visible.

Types Of Alarms Which can be encountered are mentioned below.

1. 2. 3. 4. Loss Of Signal (It means Local end issue, patching of local end could be faulty. Receive AIS (Patching Problem at Far End/ Media Issue) Remote Alarm (RAI) (Mostly Hints the Problem is at the Far End) Loss of Frame (Patching Issue, Local Issue)

Now Exploring Individual Ports of HD-E1 Card

When Troubleshooting, always start with the loop Testing( To ensure port of the PSAX is not faulty). Before Going any further, please note that, there are two types of ports available at HD-E1 Card. 1. Ingress Port (these ports terminates at PSAX, e.g. E1 though MSC) 2. Egress Port (Compressed DPLC, Leaving PSAX) 17th port of 1st HD-E1 Card is Egress Port and 18th and 20th Port of 2nd HD-E1 Card are configured as Egress. Question is Which port at the DDF Panel is the 18th Port.???

Standard Configuration of an E1
First select which port you want to configure for E1 (Circuit Emulation Channels) from HD E1 card, and highlight that port by UP, Down Arrow and press Enter. High Density E1 Port and channel configuration page appears In That Select..

1. Loopback will always be NoLoop in Through Condition. 2. Transmit Clock will be LocalTiming 3. Data Transfer Type Structured 4. Channelization will be Enabled. 5. Time Slot 16 will be Ccs 6. CRD-4 will be disabled 7. Upstream Interworking will be Trunk Cond 8. SG Feature will be Disabled 9. CT Mode will be Four-Wire 10. Line Code will always be Hdb3 11. Line Status will be No Alarm

After Completion of Configuration, Apply Port Configuration

After Applying, in the chnl_Status, thirty one (31) channels appear (unconfig). Select each channels one by one, by Up, Down Arrow Key and press enter HD E1 Channel Configuration page appears on this page select Interface Type : CircuitEmulation Signaling] : Disabled

And Apply Configuration after applying select Go back to Port Configuration. After applying the above configuration on 31 Unconfig channels(Make Sure each Circuit is strapped with a DS Circuit), then bring all channels into service by selecting Bring All Interfaces Into Service and press Enter.

When Configuring An ATM / Egress Port the only changes are mentioned below.
1. (4th Field) Channelization will be Disabled. 2. Trunk Cond. Will be Unframed1s.

See Snapshot On Next Page

Once Configured, Dont Forget to Bring All Interfaces into Service. One Basic Difference Between When configuring an Ingress Port and Egress Port is that, In Ingress Port Configuration Each Channel Emulation is Strapped Individually with a single DS0.

While In ATM / Egress Port Configuration DS0-31 are all strapped Together.

Connection Configuration Menu (3rd option)

All This was for the Physical Configuration. Now We will do the actual PVC Configuration. For this Enter the Connection Configuration Option of the Main Menu.

Then Select PVC Configuration Screen

AAL2 Trunk table is defined on ATM Trunk port which we have previously configured

Then Select AAL2 Trunk Connection(w) <PVC Only>

VPI is Virtual Path Identifier VCI is Virtual Channel Identifier The VCI, together with theVirtual Path Identifier (VPI) is used to identify the next destination of a cell as it passes through a series of ATM switches on its way to its destination.VPI and VCI are 16 bit number to Uniquely Identify the E1 which is configured. And MUST be same on Both Ends.

Now Select Add a Connection to add E1 which is to be configured.

Here We have selected VPI as 4 and VCI as 100 Now configure for Both Traffic Parameteres i.e. IN and Out For A Signaling E1, Peak Rate is 625cps For Non Signaling E1 enter 450 SCR / PCR is also 625 cps For Non Signaling E1 enter 450 Max Burst Size is 10 Cells Conformance Type is Best-Effort CDVT is 600 Trunk Mux Type is DSP Oam Status is End-pt. Service Type is Cbr-1 Flow is Duplex. Now Add this Connection

Configuring Circuit Emulation-to-ATM VCC
