One of KLs Italian fine dining scene stalwarts, il Lido, is now sporting a new chef at the helm and a new pork-free menu, hoping to draw in an even greater portion of KL's restaurant and dining scene. Beppe de Vito, managing director of il Lido KL is no stranger to the world of fine dining, having led several noteable restaurants, including two top Italian restaurants, in Singapore: il Lido and Forlino. "After a year in KL, weve become a regular dining spot for our diners to entertain their guests. We received constant feedback that they found it unfortunate that they were unable to bring some friends over because we served pork," says de Vito when asked what convinced him to make il Lido pork-free. "As part of the menu change, we've managed to source excellent veal meats, a classic ingredient in Italian cuisine, direct from Italy."

T HE NEW CHEF: Executive Chef Andrea Zanella is no stranger to aficionados of Italian cuisine in KL. Hailing from Vicenza in northeastern Italy, Zanella brings with him over 30 years of culinary experience from many established restaurants around Italy, London and Asia. T HE NEW MENU: The a la carte menu has undergone a total revamp, and now highlights 40 authentic Italian pork-free dishes created by Zanella. Veal imported from Italy takes centre stage on the new menu. The new menu stands by il Lido KLs spirit of bringing timeless dishes from all regions of Italy," says Zanella. "What makes the a la carte menu unique," he continues, "is that we have introduced an extensive variety of dishes made with fresh, seasonal ingredients, which may be uncommon in KL, but are classic Italian food that we enjoy back home."

Chef Zanella values the use of gourmet Italian ingredients like bottarga, zucchini flowers, carnaroli, as well as making his own fresh pastas, to ensure that his dishes are authentic to traditional Italian cooking and are of the highest quality. MUST TRY: Start your meal with a zing with the Crudita Veneziane (RM48), a flavourful salad with citrus marinated seafood carpaccio which showcases the rich seafood culture of Venice. Pastas are a specialty here. Zanellas homemade Ravioli al Miele Tartufato (RM48), a signature dish from Sardinia, is exquisite.

Chef Zanella is well-known for his veal dishes: the Ossobuco con Risotto (RM89) is a traditional Milanese main course of veal shank which has been braised so intensely that the meat is fall-off-the-bone tender with a side of piquant saffron risotto.
