Information for Applicants

INTRODUCTION
Designed to nurture and support Arab screenwriters, Rawi Screenwriters Lab offers emerging filmmakers the opportunity to develop their narrative feature screenplay projects, the Lab offer a uniquely creative environment under the concentrated guidance of veteran filmmakers. The program is organized by the Royal Film Commission of Jordan in consultation with the Sundance Institute's Feature Film Program and is modeled on Sundance Screenwriters Lab. Each year, Rawi Screenwriters Lab accepts seven or eight projects to participate in the Lab. Submitted screenplays are selected by an advisory committee of filmmakers and screenwriters as well as Rawi staff.

DESCRIPTION

The 8th annual Rawi Screenwriters Lab is a five-day writer's workshop that will take place in November 11-14th 2012 in the Southern desert of Jordan, Wadi Feynan Eco-lodge. The program offers selected participants the opportunity to work intensively on their feature film scripts with the support of established screenwriters (Creative Advisors). Selected writers, Fellows will have one-on-one story sessions with Creative Advisors, engaging in individual dialogues that combine life lessons in craft with practical suggestions to be explored in the next drafts. Emphasis is placed on each individual's voice and story as well as cultural context and specific vision for the project.

ELIGIBILITY The program is either for a writer, co-writers or writer /director working on their

first or second feature narrative project only. Screenwriters should be Arabs in spite of their country of residence. Candidates must submit COMPLETE FEATURE NARRATIVE SCREENPLAYS. Complete applications must be made by screenwriters including the following application form and the below material.

A covering letter introducing yourself and your project (e.g.: Why are you applying to the program? Are you collaborating with a co-writer or a director on the project? Do you intend to direct the project and what is the status of the project at the stage of submission). Complete feature narrative screenplay that must include a title page with the project title and name of writer as well as the project registration number. Please make sure the script is registered. Logline: a one-line sentence description of the project. Synopsis: one full A4 page. Filmmakers statement; please describe your vision and creative approach to the project and why you want to tell this story. Screenwriters biography.
