World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) is a non-profit organization to further support and to reinforce the United Nations (UN). Founded in 1946 and having more than 100 national UNAs and thousands of members, WFUNA has aimed to work in a harmony. The UNYANET (General Assembly of the Youth Sections of the UNAs and UNYAs) will be held in zmir in September. The last two general assemblies were held in Oslo (2010) and Vienna (2011). A SHORT INTERVIEW WITH CEMILE ASKER

Cemile, could you tell us a little bit of you? I was born in Baku in 1990 and as my father has started to work at Ankara State Opera and Ballet we moved to Turkey. Being grown up in multicultural and multi - lingual environment enabled me to realize life through a different perspective. What do you know about the United Nations (UN)? What comes to your mind when you think of the UNA Turkey? How did you hear about the internship period of the UNA Turkey? The first intern of the UNA Turkey, Ms. Nihan Kaya who is also a friend of mine at school told me about this opportunity. Since I would like to both get deep into the UN and to work at the UN, I applied for it.

Ms. Cemile Asker, the second intern of the UNA Turkey

INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME OF THE UNA TURKEY

The United Nations Association of Turkey (UNA Turkey) and the Youth Section launched an internship programme which started in 2011. This programme is a parttime and unpaid internship. There are two periods for internship; January - June and September December. If you would like to apply to our internship programme, please check www.unaturkey.org. Ms. Cemile Asker, who is a senior student in Department of International Relations of University of Ankara, has been working as our second intern. Asker speaks English and Russian fluently.

I met the United Nations at a Model United Nations (MUN) Conference in Antalya in 2009. To me, the UN is such an important and successful organization since it was founded right after the Second World War and is the successor of the League of Nations, although for some, the UN is just an existing but functionless organization. I got to know about the UNA Turkey thanks to Nihan (the first intern of the UNA Turkey). I think the internship I have been still working at, is very beneficial for me. I am indeed happy to be a part of the organization which is a member of the WFUNA. It is a new excitement for the UNA Turkey Youth Section, whose staff is young and dynamic, to be involved in UNYANET meeting which is going to be held in zmir this year. Continues on the next page

THE NEXT INTERNSHIP PERIOD: SEP DEC 2012

NEWS FROM THE UNA TURKEY

Continues here What do you think about interest and concern of Turkish people to the UN and its relevant sub-organizations? First of all, I have realized that studying in Ankara is indeed an advantage; because you can easily reach institutions and organizations, which are important for an International Relations student. Since Turkey is a founding member of the UN and due to mutual cooperation since 1945, the UN, itself, has gained a specific importance in public opinion. We can notice reflection of this importance in students and people. What are your plans for career? Is the UNA Turkey included in your future plans? This term, I will graduate from university and my aim is to get a good graduation rank. As for the future, it would be so good to work at the UN.
