Be carefull, this operation will erase all phone contents! That operation is similair to deep reset code (*#7370#) function and its helpfull when you're not able to enter code from keyboard in cases when phone just won't startup.

There are two methods allowing you to reset your phone to a more unwavering state.

Normal Reset
Using the *#7780# sequence. It will restore ini files from ROM keeping all your data (themes, 3rd party applications, video, photos, and music files)

Deep Reset
Using the *#7370# sequence. Completely format phone memory. Default files are cleaned up and rewritten. Note that data found on memory card will not be altered

How to proceed
When using symbian60 v1 based phone such as nokia 7650, 3650 or N gage models these two key sequences can be entered in the same way you dial up a phone number. The phone will prompt you to enter a security code (12345 by default). On the latest S60 phones you can try a Deep Reset, using the following steps Turns off the phone Press simultaneously on the green/talk, 3 and* keys and hold the 3 keys. Turn on your phone Wait for the onscreen Format message then can release the three keys This method may also work for Nokia phones that won't turn on. Note that before making a reset on Nokia's latest phone (N96),using the *#7370# or the 3 finger method, better make a backup, as you will automatically delete important data: The license for pre-loaded contents (music, video, maps,etc..) and pre-installed application (N-gage). Better use this method (reset) as a last resort. Your Nokia phone isn't working properly or not responding quickly.Below are tips on how to reset your Nokia Mobile phones:

Soft Reset
Soft Reset will clear pending errors and bring your mobile to an initial state by restoring Factory setting. To operate this function on your mobile, the shortcut is: *#7380# This function apparently works on almost all nokia mobile phones.

Hard Reset
It may happen that despite you have restored your mobile to factory setting, the error still exist. In this case, it is recommended that you opt for Hard reset

Enter the code: *#7370# and press Yes to confirm initialization. o Important Notice: It is recommended that you save all important information on your phone (e.g: memo, contacts etc) To make a Hard Reset on a Nokia phone that is not willing to turn on, just press simultaneously these 3 buttons: on/off + * + 3 o Before making a Hard reset better backup all your important information: contacts , memo...etc

27-Jun-2009 06:46 PM 1. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data) Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for all operations listed here is 12345 2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone 3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345) hard reset - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.

use the code #3 to erase data from your phone. for your memory card to reformat you can put it in to a card reader and treat it like another external drive and wipe out the memory card apps via computer or there should be an option to format your memory card via phone.
