Oral argumentation En 5

Your assignment is to prepare a 5-7 minutes long oral presentation in which you argue for or against a subject. You can choose any subject you like, but pick a topic that interests you and that you have a lot of opinions about. Examples of topics may be: school uniform why not? death penalty meat is murder make up no thanks more PE in school prohibit smoking skip grading in school free tickets for youngsters on buses and trains no more vampire films, please ghosts do exist

Your presentation will consist of three parts that together make a coherent speech: an introduction, in which you present your subject, a body where you present at least three arguments and one counter argument and a conclusion that tells your audience that your presentation has come to its end. You may bring an object (photo, picture etc) that has to do with your topic to show the class during the presentation. Before you have your presentation in class you get the chance to improve your speech by practising and getting some feedback from a friend. (what was good, what can be even better?) With help from your friends opinions you try to improve your presentation, make it even better. After that you have your well prepared presentation in good English in class or in a smaller group. Checklist things to think about before you have your presentation: Contents Do you have a clear thesis? Are your arguments convincing? Stick to your subject! Structure How can you create an interesting introduction? How does the audience know when your speech ends? Are words, phrases, sentences and paragraphs linked together? Keep an eye on the clock! Language Vary your language! Use a dictionary to look up words or pronunciations before your speech. You may have to explain difficult words to your audience. Look at your audience while you speak, not in your papers. Use keywords!
