Introduction
()
1.Today, Im going to give a talk on the application of reading strategies. 2.Ill start off by filling you in on the background of this research. 3. Let me start with the theoretical basis of this new model. 4. The first thing Id like to talk about is the definition of the terms I will use in my presentation. 5. Id like to do my presentation according to the outline shown on this slide. Part one: Literature Review, Part two: Research Method, Part three: Research Results. 6. Here on this slide you can see an outline of my presentation.

d. Based on the information obtained from my literature review, I made the following hypotheses.
14
2-2
a. b. c. d. Then, Ill do a very quick review on the data collection method used in this study. I conducted this study at a large research-oriented university in western Canada. My study employed a within-groups pretest and posttest design. By employing quantitative and qualitative research methods, we have developed a typology. After collecting all the necessary data for the study, we used the following analysis methods to analyze the data.
e.
15
2-3
a. Now lets turn to the results of our survey. b. The main results can be summarized briefly here: c. This table gives the average use of the three strategy categories. Among them, social strategies appear to be the most frequently used strategies by the participants, followed by metacognitive strategies and cognitive strategies. d. The findings of our analysis have important implications for future research. e. In addition to implications for testing and teaching, the results of our study also raise issues for university staff to consider.
16
3-1
a. This slide is a brief summary of what Ive talked about. b. Now Id like to summarize my talk. c. Before I run out of time, let me summarize the main points. d. Why dont we quickly summarize what weve discussed this morning? e. Finally, Id like to draw the following conclusions. f. Although our study has revealed a great deal about the nature of language used at U.S. universities, more research is called for to expand our understanding of academic registers.

Can you hear me if I dont use the microphone? Am I speaking loudly enough for those in the back of the room? I want to check if all of you can hear me clearly. Is that good? I wonder if those in the rear of the room can hear me.
28
5-2

; ......; :
31
1-3
I will now proceed to the next slide.
32
1-4
Now Id like to switch gears a bit and move on to another issue.
So the other idea that I want to mention is the flip side of this.
1-5
Lets go back to the issue of the data analysis method.
34
1-6
Sorry, I didnt make it clear. Let me recap on that.
1-7
To digress for a moment, lets consider other possibilities.
By the way, you may have seen a similar study in the news.
In passing, I just want to say how effective our research method has been.
36
1-8
In the field of, this term refers to , but in the field of, this term means
This term may have other meanings, but for our purposes, it means
It is now important to realize that racism is not just an ideology, and in contemporary society it has been defined as a process by which subordinated groups are exclude.
In order to better understand the research well cover today, we need to define this term.
37
1-9
Let me expand on some of the main points in our findings.
Id like to elaborate on that a little more for those of you who arent familiar with this model.
My starting hypothesis is that initial GDP is significant in explaining economic growth, that is to say that a poor country grows faster than a rich country.
38
1-10
Take this case, for example.
Let me, for a minute, take the example of performance gaps in public education.
1-12
Id like to conclude this talk by
2.
We all know from our experience how difficult it is to randomly assign our subjects to either the control or experimental group.
I think we all need to ask ourselves how long we can go on in conducting our investigation.
You know, over the past years the use of educational technology has progressed tremendously. As you can see from this table, the research results are not impressive. As most of you in this room are probably aware, Taipei has a lot of traffic problems. I can see some of you know what Im talking about.
41
1-1
My name is Helena Yeh. Im going to serve as the moderator for this session of meeting.
42
1-2
The aim of this session is to review the present state of knowledge and to discuss theories concerning second language acquisition.
The purpose of this discussion is to provide a forum for the exchange of information between participants in this meeting.
The aims of this meeting are to foster the exchange of ideas, to evaluate new research methods, and to bring together scholars and experts working in this area.
This morning we are privileged to have with us a distinguished panel to discuss tsunami warning systems.
43
Im pleased to introduce todays panelists.
We have a distinguished panel of scholars who have been involved in studies of this area for some time.
Were very fortunate to have with us today Professor Lee, Dr. Liao, and Mr. Chen.
We have a number of speakers, who will be presenting papers for about 15 minutes. And then at the end, well have an opportunity for a group discussion.
15
I might ask Dr. Liao for his comments first and then we will open the entire panel to discussion.
Please hold your questions and comments until all of the panelists have spoken.
44
2.
2-1
I agree with that opinion. Im in favor of that position. I agree with you on this viewpoint. I think I am quite in agreement with Dr. Wu. I think I can accept your position on that. I fully support what you said. Im of exactly the same opinion with you. I agree entirely with your point of view. Thats exactly the way I feel. I couldnt agree more with your assessment of the two testing systems.
45
2-2
I agree with most of what you said. But I must differ with you in this regard.
I agree with you to a certain extent, but I view this issue a little differently.
Im sorry to say that you seem to have a misunderstanding of our research work.
Im afraid what you said is beyond the point. It seems that it is not relevant to our present topic.
