Hindu Dharma and Human Suffering

Dr.T.V.Rao MD
I wonder many times how our Nation, India going forward in spite of unprecedented human inequality and suffering. Today the world is entirely different, there is less concern for the Co humans, and many become rich enjoy the worldly comforts, deliberately mischief makers prosper. One wonders whether there is any divine order in the World. In preachings many Saints always emphasized in Hinduism, the God is not above the Dharma, if we understand the basis of our religion Hinduism is not a religion but "dharma" which means a way of life based on universal values of humanism. Within Hinduism there are various "panths" or religions. "Dharma" has been incorrectly interpreted as "religion" and consequently "dharmanirpeksh" construed as "secularism", leading to the present confusion in concepts. The true interpretation of "Dharma" signifying the above stated attributes can only be "universal values of humanism" .Hinduism, represent henotheism that is oneness of various manifestations of the only superconsciousness. In the epic poem Gita revered even by many western scholars, the godhead Krishna says that whenever injustice and exploitation becomes unbearable, I will come again and again. He came again as Christ, Mohammed, Sikh gurus and other social reformers, and in the twentieth century as Mahatma Gandhi. Most of them were not accepted in their lifetime. Now at the beginning of the millennium, the survival of society depends upon their preaching. Money making has become the only religion with consumer driven societies. People today believe to become rich then we can hide the truth. God does not force us to believe in him, though he could provide sufficient proof of his existence for us to willingly respond to him, some say we believe in God because our intuitions about how and why things happen lead us to see a divine purpose behind ordinary events that don't have obvious human causes. The will of God or the Gods is at work in all genuine worship and service it is said in Hindu scripture that "Truth is one. Paths are many." The search for Truth, for God, is called the Sanatana Dharma or the Eternal Path because it is inherent in the soul itself, where religion begins. This path, this return to his Source, is ever existent in man, and is at work whether he is aware of the

processes or not. There is not this man's search and that man's search. Men question the wisdom of God on inequality in any living race, socialism failed to make men equal with centuries of war on capitalism. Belief in God has many solutions. He knows that the maturity of the soul takes many lives, perhaps hundreds of lives. If he is not perfect right now, then at least he knows that he is progressing, that there will be many opportunities for learning and growing. This eliminates anxiety, gives the serene perception that everything is all right as it is. There is no sense of a time limit, of an impending end or an ultimate judgement of his actions and attitudes. This understanding that the soul evolves gives the Hindu remarkable insight into the human condition and appreciation for all men in all stages of spiritual development. Sri Ramakrishna said everything happened the way as a divine will. I would repeat the name of God and believe that a certain thing would happen, and it would invariably come to pass. But you must remember, unless one is guileless and broadminded, one cannot have such faith. Many feel the failures in life are attributed to God, let us search our consciousness we own major reason for our failures. The problem is well answered by Sri Ramakrishna in his discussion. is cultivation of love for God first and then entering the world for doing our duties or work. Otherwise the dangers in the world are too powerful to overpower you and lead to sorrow and grief only. The progress of industrial world has brought lot of comforts, misfortune, grief and ills of the world will make us to lose our balance of mind. Todays crime is originated in this conflict, big and small alike running after power at any cost. In the present context very few experienced the divine souls as Mahatma Gandhi who said "Hinduism as I know it entirely satisfies my soul, fills my whole being When doubts haunt me, when disappointments stare me in the face, and when I see not one ray of light on the horizon, I turn to the Bhagavad Gita, and find a verse to comfort me; and I immediately begin to smile in the midst of overwhelming sorrow. My life has been full of tragedies and if they have not left any visible and indelible effect on me, I owe it to the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. Indias population with more than 1 billion survives on the simple philosophy of Law of Karma i.e. the retribution of your own actions, it is a theological concept found in the Buddhist and Hindu religions. It is the idea that how you live your life will determine the quality of life you will have after reincarnation. If you are unselfish, kind, and holy during this lifetime, you will be rewarded by being

reincarnated into a pleasant life. However, if you live a life of selfishness and evil, you will be reincarnated into a less-than-pleasant lifestyle. In other words, you reap in the next life even in this life as it is Kaliyuga, what you sow in this ones life will hunt you as Karma is based on the theological belief in reincarnation. The political system we are supporting today is founded by leaders who cause inequality, than GOD can ever imagine doing. Today we need more humans to understand and practice the Divine law Hindu Dharma. If we fail to practice a little of DHARMA the country will head for anarchy, which we are seeing as uprising of most supressed Nations. India continues to live with spirit of Hindu philosophy, with tolerance in spite of manmade injustice, greed of the rich and powerful. Email doctortvrao@gmail.com.
