1.5.0 a) Five non-compounded advance increments shall be admissible at the entry level of recruitment as

Assistant Professor to persons possessing the degree of Ph.D. awarded in a relevant discipline by the University following the process of admission, registration, course work and external evaluation as prescribed by the UGC. b) M.Phil. degree holders at the time of recruitment to the post of Assistant Professor shall be entitled to two non-compounded advance increments. c) Those possessing Post-graduate degree in the professional course such as LL.M./ M. Tech. etc., recognized by the relevant statutory body / council, shall also be entitled to 2 non-compounded advance increments at the entry level.

the UGC Regulations on Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education 2010 ( herein after referred as UGC Regulations 2010) published in the Gazette of India, September 18, 2010 (BHADRA 27, 1932) [Part-III-Sec.4] and are subject to future regulations/norms, including amendments in the present regulations, stipulated by the MHRD/UGC/AICTE applicable to such recruitments. A crossed Demand Draft of Rs.750/- (from any nationalised bank) for candidates under General & OBC category, Rs. 250/- for SC, ST, PWD & Women candidates and US$ 20 (US Dollars) for candidates applying from abroad & wish to pay the amount in foreign currency, payment should be drawn in favour of CUTN, Thiruvarur, payable at Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu should be sent along with the printout application. 3.1.1

Essential qualification for the post of PROFESSOR


I) For Arts, Humanities, Sciences, Social Sciences, commerce, Education, Languages, Law, Journalism and Mass Communication.
A. (i) An eminent scholar with Ph.D. qualification(s) in the concerned / allied / relevant discipline and published work of high quality, actively engaged in research with evidence of published work with a minimum of 10 publications as books and / or research / policy papers. (ii) A minimum of ten years of teaching experience in university / college of which three years at the level of Associate Professor and / or experience in research at the University / National level institutions / industries, including experience of guiding candidates for research at doctoral level. (iii) Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology mediated teaching learning process. (iv) A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS), set out in the UGC Regulation, 2010 B. An outstanding professional, with established reputation in the relevant field, who has made significant contributions to the knowledge in the concerned / allied / relevant discipline, to be substantiated by credentials.

II) For Music discipline


(i) An eminent scholar with a doctoral degree actively and engaged in research with ten years of experience in teaching in University/ College and/or research at the University / National level institutions including experience of guiding research at doctoral level with outstanding performing achievements in the field of specialization. OR A traditional and a professional artist with highly commendable professional achievement in the concerned subject, who should be or have:

A grade artist of AIR/TV; Twelve years of outstanding performing achievements in the field of specialization; Significant contributions in the field of specializations and ability to guide research; Participation in National/International Seminars/ Conferences/ Workshops and / or recipient of National/International Awards/ Fellowships; and e) Ability to explain the logical reasoning of the subject concerned and adequate knowledge to teach theory with illustration in that discipline. NOTE: A relaxation of 5% may be provided at the graduate and Master's level for the SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities (Physical and Visual Disabilities) categories for the purpose of eligibility and for assessing good academic record during direct recruitment to teaching positions.

3.2.1 Essential qualifications for the post of ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR [Area of specialization of each subject is furnished below ] I) For Arts, Humanities, Sciences, Social Sciences, commerce, Education, Languages, Law, Journalism and Mass Communication.

(i) Good academic record with a Ph.D. Degree in the concerned / allied / relevant disciplines. (ii) A Masters Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed). (iii) A minimum of eight years of experience of teaching and / or research in an academic / research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a University, College or Accredited Research Institution/industry excluding the period of Ph.D. research with evidence of published work and a minimum of 5 publications as books and / or research / policy papers. (iv) Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology mediated teaching learning process with evidence of having guided doctoral candidates and research students. (v) A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS), set out in the UGC Regulation, 2010.

II)

For Music discipline:

i) Good academic record with doctoral degree, with performing ability of high professional standard. ii) Eight years of experience of teaching at the University, College level and / or research in University / national level institutions excluding the period spent for obtaining the research degree. iii) Has made significant contributions to the knowledge in the subject concerned, as evidenced by quality of publications. iv) Contribution to educational innovation such as designing of new courses, curricula and / or outstanding performing achievement in the field of specialization . OR 1. A traditional and a professional artist with highly commendable professional achievement in the concerned subject, who should be or have; (a) A grade artist of AIR / TV; (b) Eight years of outstanding performing achievements in the field of specialisation; (c) Experience in designing of new courses and / or curricula; (d) Participation in Seminars / Conferences in reputed institutions; and (e) Ability to explain the logical reasoning of the subject concerned and adequate knowledge to teach theory with illustrations in that discipline. NOTE : 1)Under the term 'good academic record' the candidate must have obtained on an average of 50% marks in each of the two public examinations/degrees immediately preceding the Master's degree. 2) A relaxation of 5% may be provided at the graduate and Master's level for the SC/ST/ Persons with Disabilities (Physical and Visual Disabilities) categories for the purpose of eligibility and for assessing good academic record during direct recruitment to teaching positions.

3.3.1

Essential qualifications for the post of ASSISTANT PROFESSOR I) For Arts, Humanities, Sciences, Social Sciences, Commerce, Education, Languages, Law, Journalism and Mass Communication.
[Area of specialization of each subject is furnished below]
(i) Good academic record as defined by the concerned university with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) at the Masters Degree level in a relevant subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. (ii) Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET / SET. (iii) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-clauses (i) and (ii) to this Clause 4.4.1, candidates, who are, or have been awarded a Ph. D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities / Colleges / Institutions. (iii) NET / SLET / SET shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines for which NET / SLET / SET is not conducted.

For Music discipline


Good academic record with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) at the Masters Degree level, in the relevant subject or an equivalent degree from an Indian / Foreign University. Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, candidates must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) for lecturers conducted by the UGC, CSIR, or similar test accredited by the UGC. Notwithstanding anything contained in the sub-clause (i) and (ii) to this Clause 4.4.2.1, candidates, who are, or have been awarded Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET / SLET / SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities / Colleges / Institutions. NET / SLET / SET shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines for which NET /SLET / SET is not conducted. OR A traditional and a professional artist with highly commendable professional achievement i the concerned subject, who should have: (a) Studies under noted / reputed traditional masters and has thorough knowledge to explain the subject concerned; (b) A high grade artist of AIR / TV; and (c) Ability to explain the logical reasoning of the subject concerned and adequate knowledge to teach theory with illustrations in that discipline.

NOTE: (1) A relaxation of 5% may be provided at the graduate and Master's level for the SC/ST/ Persons with
Disabilities (Physical and Visual Disabilities) categories for the purpose of eligibility and for assessing good academic record during direct recruitment to teaching positions. (2) A relaxation of 5% may be provided, from 55% to 50% of the marks, to the Ph.D degree holders who have passed their master's degree prior to 19th Sept.1991: (3) B in the 7 point scale with letter grades O,A,B,C,D,E & F shall be regarded as equivalent of 55% wherever the grading system is followed. (4). Under the term 'good academic record' the candidate must have obtained on an average of 50% marks in each of the two public examinations/degrees immediately preceding the Master's degree.
3.3.2

In case of the Candidates from Engineering & Technology Stream with M.E./M.Tech./M.S. degree (For the post of Assistant Professor in Computer Science Only) :

1. Essential: First Class Masters Degree in the appropriate branch (CS/IT). 2. Without prejudice to the above, the following conditions may be considered desirable: (i) Teaching, research industrial and / or professional experience in a reputed organization; (ii) Papers presented at Conferences and / or in refereed journals. Note: The candidates shall not be eligible under the Engineering & Technology Stream on the basis of Master of Computer Application (MCA) degree. Area of specialization :Computer Science Physics Chemistry Mathematics Life Sciences English Tamil Linguistics Economics Social Sciences Environmental Studies Media and Mass Communication Legal Studies / Law Education Currently the University has teaching programs in M.A (English), M.Sc General Economics, M.Sc Financial Economics and Integrated M.Sc programs in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics & Economics. Some more programs are likely to be introduced from coming Academic Year. The short listing of candidates will be based on the requirement of the University in these programs and the decision of the screening committee in this regard will be final.

Applicants are advised to submit the printout application to the University well in advance, without waiting till last date, to avoid postal delay or any other unforeseen problems. The University will not be responsible for any postal delay at any stage. 5.2 The University may offer lower post to a candidate, who may have applied for a higher post, in case suitable candidates are not available for the advertised post. 5.3 It will be open to the University to consider, on its own, names of suitable candidates who have not applied. Candidate shall not claim it as a right. 5.4 The prescribed qualifications and experience are minimum and the mere fact that a candidate possesses the same will not entitle him/her for being called for interview. The University reserves the right to restrict the candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable number on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed as decided by duly constituted Screening Committee/s and approved by the Competent Authority. Call letters for attending interview will be sent only to the short-listed candidates by Speed Post or Registered Post or Courier service and also by email. No correspondence will be made with applicants who were not shortlisted/not called for interview. 5.5 a) Reservations for SC, ST, OBC candidates and Persons with Disabilities exist as per the Rosters being maintained by the University for various posts in accordance with the guidelines of the UGC. Candidates applying for the Reserved Posts should clearly state to which category they belong. They must also enclose a Certificate issued by Tahsildar/Mandal Revenue Officer/ Equivalent authority as proof to this effect, without which the applications will be considered against UR positions, if found eligible. b) In case a candidate wants to claim benefits under the Persons with Disabilities category, the candidates relevant disability should be not less than 40 per cent. Proof, to this effect, must be enclosed with the application, without which the application will be treated as 'general (unreserved)'. c) Candidate applying for the post(s) reserved for O.B.C., must submit an attested copy of caste certificate specifically mentioning Creamy Layer-exclusion in the format prescribed by Govt. of India, issued by competent authority, vide Column 3 of G.O.I. Deptt. of Personnel and Training O.M.No. 36012/22/93-Estt.(SCT) dated 8.9.1993 and modified vide DOPT's O.M.No. 36033/3/2004-Estt.(Res) dated 9.3.2004, subsequently revised vide O.M. No.36033/3/2004Estt.(Res) dated 14.10.2008, without which applications will not be considered. The form of Caste Certificate must be in the format as prescribed by the Govt. of India, which is enclosed as Annexure III. d) OBC candidates not enclosing the caste certificate/in prescribed format, their candidature will be considered against UR position, if otherwise found eligible. 5.6 The University reserves the right to relax any of the qualifications, experience, etc., in deserving cases in respect of any post. Candidates shall not claim it as a right. 5.7 Candidates applying for the position of Associate Professor and Professor need to fill up the column under research & academic contribution. The detailed score is available in www.ugc.ac.in as UGC regulation 2010. This part is to be filled as per Appendix III Table 1, Category III of the UGC regulations 2010, which is also available as part of the advertisement as Annexure -II. 5.8 The number of vacancies of the posts indicated in this Employment Notification is tentative. The University reserves the right to fill any consequential vacancies, and /or to increase/decrease the number of posts and make appointments accordingly. 5.9 Canvassing in any form on behalf of any candidate will disqualify such candidate. 5.10 Selection will be made on the basis of candidates Academic record and their performance in the interview. The University may utilize seminar /colloquium and/or any other mode as a method of selection. 5.11 Candidates already in service must submit their applications (hard copy/print out) through proper channel. In case the applicant is in service, and delay is expected in getting endorsement of the employer concerned on the printout application and in sending it to the University, the applicant may submit Advance Copy of the application, with all enclosures, to the address given in the employment notification directly (with or without employer's endorsement on the Advance Copy). In

such case, the Demand Draft towards application fee must be enclosed to the Advance Copy.

A xerox copy of the Demand Draft must be enclosed to the original application being sent through proper channel/employer. If the original application through proper channel has not been received

by the University by the last date mentioned in the employment notification, the candidate/applicant will have to submit a 'NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE' obtained from his/her employer to the University at the time of interview, if he/she is called for interview.

Good Photostat copies of all certificates must be attached to the application: Those who have joined / are joining the University service on or after 1st January, 2004 are covered under new pension scheme introduced by the Government of India (Central Government). Applications incomplete in any respect will not receive any consideration at all. Applicant must write name of the post/specialization, reserved/ unreserved post, his/her name and full address on the back of the Demand Draft. FOR TEACHING POSITIONS : (a) A relaxation of 5% may be provided at the graduate and Master's level for the SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities (Physical and Visual Disabilities) categories for the purpose of eligibility and for assessing good academic record during direct recruitment to teaching positions

(b) A relaxation of 5% may be provided, from 55% to 50% of the marks, to the Ph.D degree holders who have passed their master's degree prior to 19th Sept. 1991. (c) A relaxation of the minimum marks at the PG level from 55% to 50% for appointment as Assistant Professor may be provided to the candidates who have cleared the JRF examination conducted by UGC/CSIR prior to 1989, when the minimum marks required to appear for JRF examination were 50%. (d) B in the 7 point scale with letter grades O,A,B,C,D,E & F shall be regarded as equivalent of 55% wherever the grading system is followed. N.B (a) The term 'ordinarily' used here will have the same meaning as in Section 20 of the Representation of the Peoples Act, 1950 (b) Where the certificates are issued by Gazetted officers of the union Government or State Governments, they should be in the same form but counter signed by the District Magistrate or Deputy Commissioner (Certificates issued by Gazetted Officers and attested by District Magistrate/Deputy Commissioner are not sufficient)
