Sanitee is seeking inspired visual artists to apply their skills to improving sanitation in India.
Sanitation in India Over 600 million people lack access to proper sanitation facilities in India, leading to inhumane, unhygienic conditions that have far-reaching consequences. Poor sanitation is a leading cause of diseases like diarrhea and cholera. These diseases especially affect children, with diarrhea being the number two cause of child death globally. Scaling up current approaches to improve sanitation is not enough. There is a serious need to innovate and we believe that design and art play a very important role in this change. Join our effort at Sanitee to create real social impact together. Sanitee Launch Project You will collaborate directly with the Sanitee team to conceptualize a project in order to create maximum impact through your specific artistic discipline. The goal of our first launch project is to create a fictional yet educational story in the form of a graphic novel that engages children in issues of sanitation and personal hygiene. We challenge you to think about how different media can be used to convey a compelling story involving mythological characters such as Soap Gods and Diarrhea Demons. Accompanying t-shirts Elements from the story will also be designed on organic and fair-trade t-shirts which will be promoted globally. Profits from the sale of these t-shirts will be used to print educational collateral to be distributed in Indian slums suffering from inadequate sanitation. Your creativity will be challenged as youll have to engage both young Indian communities and an international audience. We seek collaborators interested in learning about, and engaging with, public health issues in the developing world while bringing stunning visuals and narratives to the table. Compensation Sanitee is a non-profit entity and as such will not be able to remunerate participating artists. However, Sanitee will work with the partner artist to budget their project and will cover its related expenses, such as travel, communication, materials, and other considerations. Additionally, for students, we are happy to sponsor internships or independent studies.
