Hosted or CPE?
Agenda
Quick introduction to Epygi Technologies VoIP technology brief Hosted offerings, pros and cons CPE offerings, pros and cons VoIP opportunities for SMB

Around 40 employees Specializes in IP PBX and Gateways for the SMB Products manufactured in Texas Products sold through distributors and authorized resellers Installed base throughout Europe, Australia, Africa and the Americas since 2005
VoIP Technology
Has been around for some time (15 years or more) Technology is mature and is reliable (not a garage project) Based on open standards such as SIP (interop is the goal)
VoIP Technology
Advantages
Cheaper gear and cost of service to traditional PBXs Advanced features (usable) Mobility (your DID is global) Lower service tax (for now) Flexibility (scenarios, providers, gear) Choice of IP Phones One cable plant, wireless
Disadvantages
Needs power (good old line cards) E911 (where are you?) Broadband dependent LAN infrastructure
Hosted VoIP
What is it?
A telephony termination and services provider that terminates calls in both directions to the PSTN and may provide advanced PBX type telephony features to customers with minimum equipment on customer premises
Growing trend (ISPs looking for new revenue) Many providers to choose from with basic and advanced services What to look for
Cost of these services (basic calls, LD, features) Does it scale well (as needs grow) Commitment (contract timeframe, early cancellation) Service (good support, QoS) Reseller revenue opportunity (will they go direct?) What gear is required (will they provide it?)

Hosted VoIP
Advantages
Minimal CPE gear (IP phones, softphone or ATAs) OPEX model (small initial cost) Scalability (easy to add/delete extensions, remote users) Features a la carte Easier to install (no IT guy ?)
Disadvantages
Dependent on broadband link (link down, no calls) Stuck with provider (not easy to change) Limited feature set (video calls, call recording, ACD) New features may take time (platform needs to support it) You are not in control
CPE VoIP
What is it?
Customer premise-located telephony equipment with basic and advanced functionality (PBX) connected to IP and maybe traditional telephony digital and analog circuits.
Most vendors offer VoIP gear today (new designs IP-based) Enterprise features at rock bottom prices What to look for
Many new vendors (do your homework, check interop) Open source or embedded appliance (people behind product) Support (critical) Cost of solution (box, switch, phones, trunks) Does it scale well (multi-site, performance, extension count) Mature products (QoS, stable, robust) Product evolution
CPE VoIP
Advantages
Freedom (not tied to provider) Advanced Features (ACD, video, UC, Multi-site) Redundancy (PSTN trunks, alternate providers) Control (try and see, add/deletes) Lower cost (over time) Other (security, door control)
Disadvantages
CAPEX vs. OPEX (but costs are lower than legacy) Tied to vendor (use open standards gear) Support and Configuration (get good resellers/vendors)
