You’re invited to share the vision!

The United Way of Williams County brings people together to tackle our community’s
most vital needs and to invest in lasting changes that improve lives. The partnership
between the business community, citizens and helping agencies creates the strongest
positive impact for children, families and senior citizens.

Investing in our community matters.

When people’s basic needs are met, they will perform better at work, be more nurturing
parents and spouses, and be productive citizens of our community. United Way
invests in Williams County residents. Be a champion for the United Way of Williams
County in your company. It shows that you care about your community, and what
matters!

Your investment matters.

Your commitment to be a champion for United Way of Williams County indicates your
standing as a critical contributor to our community. Together we can help demonstrate
the importance of giving back to the community and motivate employees to participate.
Here are just a few ways you can join us in this effort.

• Commit to making a United Way campaign a priority in your company.

• Commit to a Corporate Contribution or a Matching Employee Gift program.
• Make payroll deductions available to your employees.
• Offer incentives or prizes for employees who give.
• Generate an awareness throughout your company that people with steady
jobs, benefits and competitive wages have a responsibility to give back to the
community and to their less fortunate neighbors

Steps to a successful campaign.

1. Select the campaign team and share this packet with them.

2. Develop Your Campaign plan. The plan includes the company goal, campaign
dates, incentives, events and garnering both Management and Labor support.

3. Set Your Company Goal. This goal should be the total of your corporate gift and
employee giving (see page 7 of this packet for goal-setting worksheet).

4. Communicate and conduct the campaign. (www.unitedwaywc.org is a great

resource for helpful workplace campaign material) Hold employee meetings, invite
an agency speaker, and ask for their support! Offer prizes or gifts to donors.

5. Give instructions on how to make a pledge and where to turn in pledge cards.

6. Make sure all employees have the opportunity to give and express your appreciation
for their participation.

7. Fill out report envelope (included with campaign supplies), put pledge cards, cash
and check gifts into the envelope and return to United Way office. Make sure payroll
department retains copies of pledge cards in order to facilitate withholding.

8. Communicate campaign results to your employees.

Tools for a great workplace campaign.

• An Account Executive is available to help you. He or she is a great resource and

familiar with how company campaigns work. Ask any questions you have!

• The United Way of Williams County web site www.unitedwaywc.org has an entire
section devoted to workplace campaigns. There are various publications and
samples that you can customize for your company. All of the material is formatted
in either PDF or Word.

• United Way Agencies offer presenters who will speak to your employees about the
services they offer and how United Way dollars make them possible.

• United Way Staff and volunteers are available and happy to assist you in any way
we can. Our phone number is 419-636-8603, email is wecare@unitedwaywc.org.

Spark your campaign.

A fun campaign makes your job more enjoyable and creates increased awareness of
United Way among your co-workers.

With that in mind, we’ve compiled a booklet called

“Special Event Sparks” – examples of ideas and
events – to help ignite an exciting and effective
employee campaign. We’ve included simple campaign
promotions, as well as unique, successful special
events that companies have sponsored in the past.

Make sure you check out this publication - it should

be inside your company folder or download from www.
unitedwaywc.org!

Let us know when your company does one of these

special events. We can help with publicity and even
show you where to get great United Way prizes!

Most of all, have fun!

Caring Club® – A new incentive for Campaign 2007

The United Ways of Defiance, Fulton, Henry and Williams counties have partnered in
a special promotion for this fall’s campaign. This exciting donor program will recognize
those who contribute $120 or more each year.

Club members will receive a personalized card for discounted food, entertainment,
goods or services at merchants throughout the four-county area.

Valid Through 1/31/09

Caring Club® Membership Requirements

Make a contribution of $120 or more to the United Way.

Provide
rovide your home address for mailing of the cards.
The cards will be mailed to employees’ homes at the end of January and are good until
January 31, 2009. Discounts will be listed on the Caring Club® web site at
www.caringclub.info and will be updated continuously.

It is important that you secure home addresses from each employee pledging (there
is a spot on the pledge card). Without this address, the employee will not get a
card. United Way does it this way so that companies aren’t burdened with the task
of distributing hundreds of cards. Of course, addresses will only be used to thank
the donor for their gift and communicate with them regarding the Caring Club® program.
Addresses will not be sold, rented, shared or otherwise seen by any third-party.

If you have questions about this program, please contact the United Way office.

Set a challenging goal.

Setting a challenging goal is a critical step in a successful campaign!

Take a minute to reflect on the following questions:

• What are your organization’s philanthropic goals?

• How can your United Way Account Executive help you to achieve your goals?

• What community issues are important to your employees? What community

issues are important to management?

• How does your organization feel about volunteer opportunities?

Answering these questions may help you to make a decision as to how you will best
organize and promote your campaign. Perhaps you would like to focus more on
percentage of participation, rather than pure dollar amounts. Maybe special events will
be a big part of your campaign. Only you know your company!

You can use the following table to help plan your campaign and set your company
goal. Good luck!
