The movie critiqued is called, Gandhi, which is a biographical film based on the life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and his nonviolent campaign against the Britishs ruling in India. The religion of Hinduism is portrayed in the movie as well. Hinduism is one of the oldest religions with origins being in India. It has many people that follow the Hinduism religion with 85% of Indias population being Hindus. Hinduism is polytheism, where it has up to 330 million gods and is considered an umbrella religion because it doesnt reject different ideas, but rather take the concepts of other religions. Gandhi: Gandhi was a man that was kind and understanding towards everyone. Though he was a Hindu, he still did not discriminate against others of different religions, but rather embraced that fact and even took it upon himself to befriend them and understand their religion by learning about it. He acted as a leader for India during the independence movement of India against the British. He treated people kindly and equally. No one was treated as a better person than someone else. He made sure that everyone should be treated with respect and no one was better than anyone else. He impacted the story by being the main character in which promoted peace and equality through non-violent actions. He helped change peoples view on Indians being treated as an unequal or anyone being unequal and that people do not have the right to be treated unfairly at all.

Kasturbai (Gandhis wife): Kasturbai was a woman who was extremely faithful to her husband, Gandhi. She was an obedient wife who did all that she could to help her husband as he was going on with his nonviolent campaign. She treated people well, just as how Gandhi would want people to treat each other. Though at the beginning she had to be reminded that everyone had to be treated equally by cleaning the latrine, it impact the story by showing that she obeyed and went to show that she was supporting his campaign for equality. She also impacted the story by the woman who stood beside her husbands side for such a big cause and aiding him throughout everything he does, and even saying to people that she would step up and continue what her husband was fighting if they took him away or killed him. Theme 1: A theme of the movie is equality. Equality is having everyone be treated equally and that no one is to be treated any differently from anyone else. To have the same rights, status, and opportunities as everyone else no matter whom you are. Throughout the movie, the theme is portrayed through Gandhi standing up to the British for the equality of all the Indian men, women, and children because the British acted like they were of higher status than the Indians. Gandhi stood up to the British by burning the passes that all Indians were to have.

Theme 2: Another theme was non-violence. Non-violence is a way to reject the use of violence and fighting. There is no fighting back through physical means, but rather through peaceful ways. It is shown throughout the movie when the Indians are protesting, and when the British attack, they do not respond through violence, but rather do nothing except talking peacefully and accepting it. It is shown when the British men came with horses to trample the Indian protestors, but the Indian men did not attack back, but rather lay down so the horses and the British could retreat like they did later. In conclusion, Gandhi was an influential man that helped many people of different races and believes to realize that everyone should be treated equally and no different from anyone else. I think that he was a great man that many people can learn from. The movie is inspirational and it can help people understand the power of non-violent campaign and speech.
