H.A.Gade was born in Talegaon Dashasar in Maharashtra.

He was one of the founder members of the Progressive Artists Group (1958) Mumbai. He was the member of Lalit Kala Academy, Artists Delegation. He completed his graduation in science from Nagpur University. In 1949 he got a Diploma in Fine Arts from Nagpur School of Art, Nagpur. In 1950 he got a Master Degree from Nagpur School of Art, Nagpur. Exhibitions: * 1948 Inaugural Exhb. Progressive Artists Group, Bombay. * 1948, 49 Exhb. He has a good understanding of the pictorial dimensions of colour, and was referred as a painters` painter. He had revolted against the traditions of academic art which was introduced by

the Britishers in the academic system. He articulated dynamic and spontaneous style. Initially he painted landscapes using water colours later on shifted to oils on canvas. Colour is an important element in his paintings. He passed away in the year 2001. In the years 1939-44 he served as a teacher in Mathematics and Science.
