ACRYLIC AND WATERCOLOR PAINTING, GRADES 10-12

Objective: The objective of the project will be to capture a consensus map for these two department electives, inclusive of the Advanced offerings of both electives Staff: 2 high school Studio Art teachers Dates: July 9, 10

Meeting: The members of the curriculum workshop will meet for two days in the summer of 2011. Teachers will be compensated at a per diem amount of 1/200th of BA Step 1 or MA Step 1 for the equivalent of two days of service, comparable to a teachers school day. In addition, participants will be expected to assist in the in-servicing preparation of others and may also be expected to attend a meeting of the Board of Education in order to answer questions that may be posed regarding the workshop activities. Objective: To continue aligning the Common Core standards with current Alternate Math program curriculum. To create challenging warm-ups, cumulative reviews, and assessments that align with the revised curriculum Staff: 3 Alternate Math teachers Dates: June 25, 26, and morning of June 27

Objective: To create a curriculum framework for band for all elementary schools, the junior high and high school To integrate technology into the band program To evaluate the pedagogical approaches in instrumental music at all levels to reduce redundancy, increase relevancy and provide more cohesive ties within band instruction To make forays into curriculum mapping To integrate components of world music into the instrumental music program so as to better address the global range of experiences with music To make necessary revisions to periodic assessments and grading tasks for band and instrumental lessons, and to develop methods of assessing the effectiveness of the curriculum Staff: Meeting: 4 Band teachers Dates: July 23, 24

BIOLOGY, GRADE 9
Chairperson: Keith Bogert Objective: To assess and modify the Regents Biology, stretched Regents Biology, and Honors Biology programs to continue the alignment of each program with next-gen science standards based on the Framework in Science. In addition, we are interested in the further incorporation of the new ELA standards into each program. An Earth Science teacher is planned to attend the workshop to ensure vertical skills alignment with the program (similar to how we restructured our laboratory programs over the last 5 years), as well as provide expertise in using our mapping software Rubicon Atlas Staff: 4 teachers (including 1 Earth Science teacher) Dates: July 2, 3, 5, 6,

Objective: Revision of the Balanced Literacy curriculum for grades K-6 was begun last summer. At this time, the Reading Turnkey Trainers worked to revise the competencies.
