English Paper One (Example)

First Paragraph: (Name, age, job, how long you have known this person) Ak Zakwan bin Pg Salleh is seventeen years old. He is a student and goes to school at Sekolah Menengah Awang Semaun where Zakwan is in form 5. I have known him since his family moved to my kampong five years ago and he always been my friend in good and bad time.

Second Paragraph: (Physical appearance, most prominent physical feature, usual clothes, favorite clothing item) Zakwan is of medium build and height. The thing you will notice about him at once is his happy smile. It is like sunshine. He likes to wear jeans and a blue t-shirt and when he goes out with his friends. His favourite piece of clothing, though, is his black baseball cap with the Nike logo on it.

Third Paragraph: (Describe your earliest memory of this person) When Zakwan came to my kampong, he moved into the house next door. He was very shy at first but we soon got to know each other and became good friends. We played soccer together and once his brother took us fishing on the river. We caught many fish and had a great time.

Fourth Paragraph: (Hobbies, sports, activities, the things this person most enjoys doing) Soccer is his favourite sport and he is a keen follower of Manchester United in the English Premier League. He likes to wear his Manchester United jersey and watches as many of their games on the TV as he can. He plays soccer for his kampong every week.

Fifth Paragraph: (Tell a story about the person) Zakwan is the kind of friend who will never let you down. I remember once when I was sick, he came to my house and stayed with me. He brought some of my favourite comic books and sweets. We talked together all day and watched TV. Not many friends would be so kind. Sixth Paragraph: (Tell a second story about the person) On another occasion, we went to Gadong to see a film. Some big boys followed us and said rude things at our back. I was so afraid. I thought they would hurt us. Zakwan turned, smiled and spoke to them. They smiled too and everything was OK. Ali told me that he was afraid too but he was very brave.

Seventh Paragraph: (What this person means to you, summing up this person) Good friends are not easy to find and I am very lucky to have a friend like Zakwan. We have always supported and helped each other. When life gets hard its great to know that you have someone like Zakwan on your side. I hope we will remain friends for many years to come.
