The minimum good will required

Before I begin, let me say this: I envisaged this to be a complementary Manual to the official AZbox HD Manual, which presumes original Opensat/Celrun image/FW. One can find the official Manual on the net easily, telling you in a usual, ABC manner, whats what. Together, I hope, they will help you unleash the power of Linux, in a Multimedia Centre of AZbox HD quality!!! In addition, this will not be an exhaustive, comprehensive how to! For instance, I only have an Elite model, so I cannot cover properly the Premium or Premium+ model issues, like WLAN, built-in HDD etc. Besides, new drivers, FW, plug-ins are being written etc. etc. Also, I have neither original nor pirate cards, so some issues with Cardserver part of Card Sharing [CS] I cannot fully test and report. Instead, I can only read and give other peoples account of it all. However, most of the major things will be here, described in detail, so anyone can sort it out for himself or herself, given the minimal self-confidence, some time to read - and a bit of necessary patience, in order to do it, aided every step of the way!!! But do it properly, EVERY step of the way, so you familiarise yourselves with all sorts of possibilities for AZbox HD, not just a single EMU/CS SW! If one needs more info on a specific issue, please visit the good forums... This is NOT all my work, even though most of it is and I certainly wrote all of it, minus the quoted text written by Mower/The_Ripper, Tinos,Kanber_Kav, terrorman and the like, who helped me understand better the ins and outs of various plug-ins for AZbox HD! I would like to thank all who helped out, all who give to this project, especially those who give freely!!! Guaranteed, if you persevere: within hours, provided one follows this alternative manual - it will all work well in the end, given the absence of spiritual laziness and way too many self-doubts, plus being all majestically princely. So, if one cant be bothered but one only wants it all working one is bound to be disappointed, Im afraid... or out of pocket, paying the professionals to do it for him/her, as this just wont set itself up nicely... I know only of persistence and doggedness. Then and only then the magic happens. Only then can one really enjoy his/her new toy, after working on it, and learning about its ins and outs!!! Get to know your machine to be able to enjoy it properly!!! Cheers!!! Goran/gorski P.S. The freeware/gratis applications you need for this, like 7-Zip, Notepad2, FileZilla Client, Firefox browser are more - are all here: http://www.theopendisc.com/ - the power and spirit of Open Source and sharing!!! My hat down!!! Please, note that one has Open Education Disk at that address, too!!! All free!!! No kidding!!!

0) The minimal necessary requirements!

Before I begin, let me say that not everything can be explained in a strictly temporal, logical manner, as if you are actually doing it - but I'll try to warn you if and when I take a detour. For newbies, who just got their AZbox HD Multimedia Centre: To your PC you should install -a UNIX editor for various files - like Notepad2 [freeware/gratis !] or Ultra Edit 32 [it costs!] (do not edit your files with Notepad, Word or WordPad, as they add extra signs, without even showing it); - FileZilla Client [freeware] to connect [FTP] with your AZbox HD; - 7zip [freeware] application, to deal with compressed files one gets from the net, in order to be able to "unpack/extract" them to your PC. For veterans of AZbox HD: -backup your channel list, if you already had your settings sorted in this regard (the 3 files are in DISK2 folder of your AZbox HD, all_channel.dat, antenna_list.dat, DVBS.dat [using FileZilla Client, which I will explain in detail later on] or by using your remote: HOME Settings System Information Backup/Restore Channel red button to a USB memory stick, for instance) -backup your AZbox HD's EMU folder, just in case...

Fasten your (W)LAN belts...

I will only presume that you have connected your AZbox HD properly to your: -satellite dish [the lower LNB port, as the upper one is a loopthrough to another Sat TV receiver/Multimedia Centre]; -TV [SCART or HDMI cable] or Home Theatre system [many possibilities there]; I will explain some aspects of connecting AZbox HD with: -PC [by LAN or WLAN], directly or indirectly [via a Modem/Router]. -internet as above, directly via router or indirectly via PC. How does one connect them? Either via -ethernet/network crossover cable, if one is to connect PC and AZbox HD directly - more info on the following link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_crossover_cable -or via ethernet/network straight cable, if one is to connect ones router and AZbox HD, as described on this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_5_cable When you do that, go to AZbox HD Menu, using your remote: press the blue button HOME, then go to Settings, and then Internet.

...we're about to take off...

How to connect AZbox HD with internet and PC, in order to embark on a Linux, Sat TV and multimedia adventure...
So, it is best if you setup a modem/router as your internet connection. That way, AZbox HD and your PC are connected indirectly, i.e. via the router. In other words, both your PC and your AZbox HD will be connected to the net via the router. By the same token, they are connected with each other, indirectly, via the router. This is a better combination, to be strived for, because all the components of your network are directly connected to the net, as well as to one another, indirectly. Here is the scheme let's pretend Computer B is your AZbox HD... Because it is a computer, after all...

If this hasnt been done correctly, your AZbox HD wont be connected to the PC, i.e. internet. Always test your cables, just in case! When you are using a router, then all the machines we are considering here must have IP addresses in a specific range. How does one do it? On your AZbox HD remote press HOME Settings Internet. There are a few possibilities: wireless (Wi-Fi) and cable (Wired) connections. Both can be setup either automatically (DHCP), or manually (static IP). When you connect AZbox HD with the router (either via cable or wirelessly) activate DHCP in the same Settings menu. It should all be a breeze, stuck on automatic. Most of the time this does work!

5 If not, the first thing you can do is reboot, if necessary, a few times, even. If it still doesnt function, try with a static IP address. Here is an example... See routers Manual first (most of them have it online). You can also do it via your PC, by getting into it via your browser. Enter the routers interface, usually via an IP address of the http://192.168.x.x type, plus admin and admin, as username and password. Have a look here for your IP range. Note the IP address of your PC and assign a different static address to your AZbox HD. Lets say that your routers IP address is 192.168.1.2, the range is up to 192.168.1.254, that PCs IP address is 192.168.1.252. We can assign 192.168.1.251 as a static IP address to AZbox HD, then 255.255.255.0 - Subnet mask, 192.168.1.2 Gateway, 192.168.1.2 DNS1, 0.0.0.0 DNS2. When you do that, go to Start check. You should be connected. If not: reboot and test! I do not own a Premium model, so I cant test the WLAN issues, except state a few things on the level of principles. Its always preferable to cable it up, of course. But sometimes WLAN. is necessary. I can see some people are complaining re. encryption/WLAN security measures of the newer, stronger type, but I can also see the improvement reports, so hopefully... one day

1) Let's get down to it: IN MEDIAS (ST)RES!!!

One can download a new patch [= Firmware = FW = Image] from the internet, straight to your AZbox HD and install it, all in one go. Press HOME on your remote Settings System Information Firmware Upgrade Internet green button edit the link [to get the latest in very Beta images] to http://fw.azupd.com or leave it as it is [to see only the more stable Beta images. But the best practice I know of is deleting it all and re-doing it from scratch, eliminating whatever accumulated mistakes there may be, if at all possible! One doesnt need to do it from scratch sometimes, if all is functioning well and a new FW comes out. In that case, one can skip the deleting of everything one has installed previously! But... if its corrupt... If it isnt, then AZbox HD is the greatest and easily programmable machine, as you dont lose all your personal data, channel list, settings You just change the FW but the plugins and everything else stays in!!! Cool! If you do not want it done from scratch it will be easier and faster, of course. Press the Home button on your remote and use your left arrow [around the OK button] on your remote controller to go to Settings Data Reset PIN number is 0000 Delete all plugins, then Delete all channels! Skip this step, if you want to keep them.

6 Download and put a "patch" [= Image = Firmware = FW], the one you want to programme your AZbox HD with, on your USB memory stick. Then, put the USB memory stick into AZbox HD. Reboot your AZbox HD, either using the power button at the back of the receiver or press the red Power/Standby button on your remote for about 5 seconds. A note: a "patch" [FW] usually comes compressed, i.e. as patch.rar unpack it, using 7zip programme [right click on it Extract here]. Also, once decompressed/unpacked, sometimes one must also rename it, as it comes as patch.sit file, in which case right click on it rename it patch.bin Enter [on your keyboard]. Warning: USB memory stick should be formatted in FAT, FAT32 or ext3 format, NOT NTFS [do not reboot from a USB memory stick or an HDD formatted in NTFS!!!]!!! Thanx to Tinos: You need to remove all partitions [from the USB stick - my edit]. Format with fdisk or macosx to leave only 1 partition. Also, make sure there is no special U3 soft on it.

2) Format the application area

When AZbox HD reboots [from the USB stick with a patch.bin file on it], it will give you a number of options: firstly, use Format application area (that will delete a lot of stuff but not all, like before) confirm it by pressing OK. There is no need for this step, if youre not doing it from zero, of course! This is what the menu looks like, in which there are a few things to do.

3) Install the FW
After formatting, install the FW. You will see on the telly which FW you have in your AZbox HD and which FW is on your USB drive. You will be asked if you wish to proceed. Confirm it [OK]. When it's finished [and it takes a while, as FW is big!] and AZbox HD is rebooting - be close to the receiver to do this quickly - take the USB stick out or - if you feel lazy - just use your remote to choose Reboot without update! In that case, when it is up press the USB button on your remote [lower right hand corner] and take the USB memory stick out. You will see a little message on the TV [Eject, I think.].

4) Reset!!!
Now, go to Settings Data Reset and reset to Factory setting [thanx to Tinos for warning me!]. This will wipe out your previous settings, including the channels stuff! Beware! Dont do this if you dont want to cleanse your machine and you want to keep your previous settings!

5) Settings to be sorted out...

Press the HOME button sort out the Settings, as per your setup. -System Information, check if you're "connected" etc. -Language/Time choose your preferred Menu Language; Subtitle language; Data and Time format [like European or US]; time zone etc.; Here is the photo of the sub-menu:

Choose where the subs will be, their size, colour etc.

9 -Network Service: press the right arrow to get in OK for each option to activate it all! If you dont do it, you wont be able to get into AZbox with Telnet, FTP etc. For reasons of security disable the Telnet Server option, if youre not using it!

-Internet settings, according to your equipment and needs -Audio/Video choose your Video Format, Resolution, Screen etc. One should send a list of channels (consisting of all_channel.dat, antenna_list.dat and DVBS.dat files) into AZbox HD (see below for details; here, I will continue to write about the Settings themselves, first), in order to be able to sort out the dish/LNB settings. So, only when you put in the list of channels, can you sort out the stuff one can find here: TV Channel Tuner A DVB-S Antenna Setup DiSEqC hit the left arrow to get to Combination OK set your xyz amount of LNBs... DiSEqC 1.0 [up to 4 LNBs], DiSEqC 1.1 [up to 64 LNBs]. A bit below is one such setup my toroidal dish with 16 LNBs The following 2 are normally used for motorised setups, when one has only 1 LNB. Then, one usually uses the "Positioner" settings, of course. (DiSEqC 1.0 and 1.1 are normally used when the "Positioner" is set to OFF".) DiSEqC 1.2 for a motorised setup and USALS, the same but automatised, using your Latitude and Longitude (Format: xx.x) TV Channel also has the not-yet-fully-implemented IP Channel option (pass for now).

DiSEqC 1.1 settings for multi-LNB setup

OK, what one gets with this option? Well, its instant switching, no waiting, no noise in the dead of night and your neighbours or/and your darlin' cursing you... Superb!!! At first I had 8 normal, single LNBs + MAXIMUM 8in1 switch:

10

How does one set it up? Well, get into the Combination sub-menu OK set it up for xy LNBs, depending on your setup. So, the winning combination for 8 LNBs + 8in1 MAXIMUM switch, with AZbox HD is:
Sat position 1 = [I reversed the Command Order] Uncommit./Commit. + [Committed DiSEqC] Switch A + [Uncommitted DISEqC] Switch 1 (For Centauri 16in1 switch: change the 1-16 Input = Switch only!!!) Sat position 2 = Uncommit./Commit. + Committed DiSEqC Switch B + Uncommitted DISEqC Switch 1 Sat position 3 = Uncommit./Commit. + Committed DiSEqC Switch C + Uncommitted DISEqC Switch 1 Sat position 4 = Uncommit./Commit. + Committed DiSEqC Switch D + Uncommitted DISEqC Switch 1 Sat position 5 = Uncommit./Commit. + Committed DiSEqC Switch A + Uncommitted DISEqC Switch 2 Sat position 6 = Uncommit./Commit. + Committed DiSEqC Switch B + Uncommitted DISEqC Switch 2

11
Sat position 7 = Uncommit./Commit. + Committed DiSEqC Switch C + Uncommitted DISEqC Switch 2 Sat position 8 = Uncommit./Commit. + Committed DiSEqC Switch D + Uncommitted DISEqC Switch 2

I kept pestering Hugo of Opensat to sort it out properly, as the full DiSEqC v. 1.1 wasnt present in the FW when AZbox HD came out and it paid off!!! The sub-menu looks like this:

So, one can, indeed, put up even more LNBs, some or all of them Twin or Quadro LNBs, each sending 2 or 4 cables into 2 or 4 switches, each of those sending only 1 cable down to the receiver, one per sat TV tuner. That way it will be easy to watch something and record something else.. With the right twin tuner receiver, of course Only AZbox HD Premium+ model is a twin tuner MMC. Elite and Premium models cant actually act as twin tuner receiver, even though we were promised they will, many times I will eventually get myself a proper twin tuner MMC, when the right one arrives (bu not DMM!!!) Not to forget: here are the links to calculate ones position, elevation, central satellite position etc. Choose your language, country, city etc. http://www.satsig.net/maps/lat-long-finder.htm http://www.dishpointer.com/ http://tinyurl.com/ongfb4 Then, when you have a good enough signal on all the satellites you need, you can scan satellites individually, all together, or maybe transponder by transponder, according to your needs. Those DVB-S "antenna" settings have many options. Do not use the GOGO-list yet! Not ready!!! It may mess up your channel settings! In the meantime, I started preparing for that jolly day: I now have two brand new CANTAURI EMP 16/17in1 switches and www.smart-electronic.de 14 Oxid and 2 Titanium (all twin) LNBs (all 0.1 dB). Here is my Toroidal 90cm dish, plus all of the above:

6) A channel list into the AZbox HD...

Put a channel list in (consisting of 3 files) at this point, if you do not want to make your own list, with your own groups like various "favourites. But be warned: editors are not yet functioning perfectly, whoever made them! If you must, use the latest telesat's or Morsers editor. Telesat also wrote AZbox HD Control Centre [ACC], which can be used for it, amongst many other functions! There are different ways of doing it. FileZilla Client is an option [the 3 files go to DISK2 in AZ]! Find a good, up-to-date list (Grle44, for instance) and the latest editor. If it is telesats, install it according to the Readme, i.e. uninstall the old one first, if you had it installed. When one installs and starts the telesat's Editor, to give but one example, one must create a profile, first. Click on Options, put in a name to create a profile [like, AZbox HD], put in the IP address of your AZbox HD [something like 192.168.x.x], then click on Update Profile. Open the three files [already mentioned above!] you got from the net: File Open find the folder containing the unzipped files open all 3 files. Edit them, if you need it DiSEqC settings are under Organise Sat and TP. Every time you make a change in a satellite position settings Update Sat! Otherwise, you will lose your changes! One can do a lot more with the editor discover by trying... I am not going to write a lot about it, as MaZ editor by Morser is improving. When that one becomes the all-in-one I will write in detail how to use it, as it will be much more than an editor but an all-round tool for AZbox HD. Send the channel list to AZbox , when done editing. AZbox HD will receive an automatic command to reboot. Wait, and then check it all out. Edit internally, if needed. I found that works best, if not without problems How? When you are watching a channel, press OK button on your remote, so you get the channel list on your TV then find a channel you want to delete press the MENU button on your remote, which is next to the LEFT ARROW on your remote Delete OK. Lets say you want to delete a whole satellite position and all its channels. Go to a channel [press the OK button] EXIT button get to the sat position you want to delete by pressing < or > arrow buttons on your remote, to get into the SATELLITE tab, press the v arrow and choose the satellite position you want to erase press the MENU button I mentioned Delete OK. Don't forget to delete the FAV groups, if you have them connected with the deleted satellite positions, though... One can easily add channels to Favs or Country or so... It can all be done via remote. Btw, Premium+ needs 2 lists, if it has 2 sat TV tuners, one each

14 You may want to re-scan at least your favourite satellite positions, just in case! Use the NIT option, since AZbox HD then searches for connections between transponders/providers and therefore new transponders, which are not yet in various lists that come with FW... Some of the last FWs now have a Scan all frequencies option, which is the so called blindscan function. Elite and Premium models have the SW version of it, while Premium+ model has a tuner that has the HW blindscan option. You will have to give the S/R to search on, though. Try it, especially if you are into hunting feeds on odd satellite positions

Put the settings/channel list in manually

One can do it via FTP [FileZilla Client] into DISK2 folder on your AZbox HD, as I already mentioned. First, delete those 3 files you will find in the settings bundles you may find on the net. Reboot. Here is how to work with FileZilla Client, allowing you to do the above task, among other things. Download it from the net, it's gratis, ( http://filezilla-project.org/download.php ), install and start. Connect with your AZbox HD via FTP [FilleZilla Client] put in your AZbox HD IP in the Host box (something like 192.168.x.x), use root as username and azbox (or whatever it may be) as password, port 22 [Mbox CC will use port 21], in the appropriate boxes, then click on Quickconnect. Later, you will only need to use Reconnect, under Server, since FZ saves this data. In FZC settings, I choose Edit Settings Interface Widescreen. That gives me 2 main windows [PC and AZbox HD], each of which has 2 more windows: a tree and a view of a chosen folder. Then, it is easy to drag & drop from one to the other, in speed...

15 Drag and drop click on a file or group of files, to choose it/them, then left-click on them and do not let go, drag to the folder in the other machine, let go. You will see if the transfer was successful in the top part of FZ. Sometimes, in AZbox HD, if one cant see a plug-in (on the TV screen, using the remote), after a transfer, one needs to do the CHMOD command to a folder and/or some or maybe the whole of its content. Right click on it File Permissions 755 OK. Reboot and try again.

7) Lets start downloading plug-ins into AZbox HD

Make sure you're online ["connected"] for the next step. How? HOME Settings System Information. If you cannot see connected, that is to say an IP address assigned to your AZbox HD, the first thing you can do is to reboot. Then, if you're still not online, check the LAN cable or your wireless settings, your modem/router etc. When you are online, download and install OpenXCAS [press HOME Plug-in Add plug-in via red button] and when done reboot!!! This will allow you to download and install directly into AZbox HD various Emulators/CS SW/plug-ins, which will either read or emulate original and pirate smartcards, connect to your peers/servers in terms of Card Sharing [CS] etc. If you cannot do it, that is because you do not have the links from which to do it, as they do not come included in official FWs. There are different ways of adding them to your AZbox HD Menu

Support servers, full of plug-ins... of all sorts!!!

One can easily download directly into AZbox HD (rather than file-by-file, via FTP, which we will describe later on) and almost automatically install various plug-ins, if one is connected to the net! Some of these plug-ins or add-ons, sitting on those servers I am now going to describe, have additional files, which are already configured, so you do not have to bother too much... Countless thanx to enthusiasts who made the huge and consistent effort, in their spare time (studying all this, testing, experimenting, debating, packing them and uploading it all for all of us to use with ease), due solely to their good will and capacity to share. For me, these are the really rich people, capable and willing of giving freely!!!

...(almost) full plug-ins are awaiting...

Of course, not everything can be in those files. For instance, the private details re. CS (peer or cwshare files), must be edited by each and every one of us, depending on our peer's servers to which we need to connect etc. There is a lot of stuff written on the subject, across many forums... for which I am partly to be blamed, hehe... OK, let's get down to the thing itself: there are 2 places where we can edit/add those links, from which one can download all that into one's AZbox HD!

16 1) Press the HOME button on your remote and go to Plug-ins red button on your remote [= "add plug-in"] edit the links by pressing the blue button on your remote. Do not add more than 4 links! A note: one gets the sign " / " by pressing the CAPS/NUM on your remote a couple of times, then 1 = / etc. etc. Also, use that button to change between the caps, numbers etc. Here are mine: http://azboxworld.com http://techsat.info/AZPlugins http://www.islaremota.com/azp - thanx to the guys from azboxhd.es/foro/foro.php http://www.descargas.azboxhd.es not sure who is behind this one...

An example
Choose the second link and install TechSat_AZK. Use it to get the keys for MultiCAS and MGcamd. CCcam is planned. One can also view which channels they open. Simply find TechSat_AZK and press OK to install it. Get out to Plug-ins, choose it, get the keys Reboot. Go to a channel from the list [like Film 1 or so], to view it 2) HOME button on your remote and go to Plug-ins OpenXCAS Download Executable edit the links (the same goes for Config and Others). http://azboxworld.com http://www.islaremota.com/aza www.satelites.info/azbox/ - thanx to BE-COOL http://techsat.info/AZCamd Now, you're going to get a whole new world of support for AZbox HD, which will, no doubt, grow and grow... Let me show you just one of them, thanx to our Spanish colleagues!

First, a little extra but basic info: what is Card Sharing?
Card Sharing is: connecting your receiver [in this case AZbox HD] with a specific SW in your receiver [the latest FW plus CS SW, like Mbox,MGcamd, CCcam or MultiCAS] with your friends' receivers or PCs [servers]. Your friends [peers] will have Original Smart Cards [OSCs] or Emulators you do NOT have. You connect with them via the internet in order to watch the programs those OSCs/EMUs can open. With CS you have those cards, too if only virtually. But you can still watch the programs those OSCs/EMUs can open, provided your friends are constantly "online" and you can connect to their receivers or PCs and the connection is fairly fast and stable. Your AZbox HD, btw, is connected to the net via your router or PC, i.e. a LAN cable [Elite and Premium models] or via WLAN [only Premium no USB dongle possibility for now].

Create a free DynDNS account

Why? Most IP addresses are dynamic, i.e. they change periodically. This is the way to connect, regardless of the fact that your IP addresses may change. Go to https://www.dyndns.com/account/entrance/ and then... choose a username then a password confirm it provide them with a valid email [you must!] confirm it security image - carefully put it in the box provided click on "I agree with Terms & conditions" click on "Create account". You get an email. Click on the link provided to activate the account. Login at the dyndns.org website. Go to: My Service Add hostname create it: xyz.dyndns.org or something else you choose there [they have a few]. Click on Use auto detected IP address xx.xxx.xxx.xx. "Add To Cart" it will say something like You must checkout to activate. Click on "Next" and then on "Activate Service". You should see: Host Services successfully activated. Now you are ready for the CS part...

18 Btw: GBox [and the SSSP derivatives, like MGcamd and Mbox, for instance], need this to function, for both Client and Server services. If you only use CCcam client service, it is not needed. Also, log into your DynDNS account [on their website], once a week, so they don't delete your account. Sometimes they do it, without any notice! Then, you must repeat the procedure. Let me also mention that there are other similar, gratis services! Just search on the net!

Re. the DynDNS in AZbox HD itself

Home Settings Network Service Dynamic DNS service Enabled Settings Thanx for the format info to Tsakman [for DynDNS]: DNS System: dyndns@dyndns.com or dyndns@dyndns.org Host Name: yourhost.dyndns.org User Name: username to log into dyndns Password: password to log into dyndns Thanx to Hans [for no-ip]: This is complete inadyn.conf for No-IP Service Put it with your Data to Disk2 --background --update_period_sec 30 --username YOUR EMAIL --password YOU PASSWORD --dyndns_system defaultatno-ip.com --alias YOUR DYDNS ALIAS You need also the -- in front of the Lines. This will update your DynDNS service from AZbox HD itself

Setup your router/modem!

After that put the DynDNS details into your Router to enable your DynDNS Service updater in it, so DynDNS Service is updated every time you change your IP address and your friends can find you through the DynDNS address. Namely, in your router's DDNS options [if you have more than one]: choose DynDNS, then put your newly created DynDNS account username, then DynDNS account password, then Hostname [like myname.dyndns.org - this is just an example, create your own name!!]

19 How does one get into one's router? Using your browser [like Firefox], of course. You will see the router's interface after putting http://192.168.x.x or so, into the address field of your browser, then your router's username and password, which you will find in the router's documentation. That address, i.e. the DynDNS hostname you just created is always going to be the same, even though your IP address might change every time you logon/get online/boot your PC. Now SAVE all that, APPLY, or ENABLE, whatever is in your Router's interface, so you do not lose all those settings.

Now, to port forwarding!

After that, you need to forward some ports in your Router. That allows your CS SW to go to the net and connect with other PCs, in this case a Server with your friends' cards, the stuff you want to watch... Btw, usually many different people end up in the network, so all kinds of packages can be seen!!! In other words, opening up of various ports enables you to get into the dark, pirate world but of vivid colours, nevertheless and all that through those little backdoors, called ports heheeeeee... This will devilishly keep you busy for a while, you'll see...

Yet more details regarding the router setup

All manner of documents for various routers and modems, so no one will fail in sorting it all out for themselves, one can see on the net: http://www.portforward.com/ - some details to learn about, i.e. http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm - routers Whatever you'll see here might not correspond to your own machine but the principles explained here will apply, for minimally intelligent people, at least - given the absence of heavy-duty spiritual laziness and a minimum of self-belief! For more details, have a look at your router's documentation, of course... So, lets explain the principle of Port Forwarding. In my modem, it's under Applications and Gaming Port Range Forwarding. Now, name an application [it's best to use your peers nickname, because usually you will open more than just one or two ports for CS -then each could be named after your friend].

Put the Port Range as follows:

-your port [the one you have to give to your friend to put into his cwsahre.cfg or peer.cfg, together with your DynDNS and Pass] and -his port - the one he gave you, where you will be let into his machine, just do the same as above but name it after your friend, so you know which one is which. From experience, it is easier to forward the same port your friend opened for you, as there is no chance you can swap them by mistake... In that case, the same port should be in Start and End little box, then

20 -UDP or Both Protocols, depending on the CS SW protocol, and -add your IP address, plus tick it at the end, so it is active. {At least that is how it is in mine.} Check your PC's IP address by clicking on the Network Icon in the Systray Support and you'll see it. Occasionally it may change, if you get another device connected to the network, so check it, if CS SW is not working. It looks normally something like 192.168.1.101 or so. One can check it also by going to Start My Network Places View Network Connections click on the active icon the details are in the lower left hand corner. That is, check your AZbox HD IP address as described above... Now, go to the bottom of the page and SAVE/APPLY SETTINGS! If you did it the right way it should all be saved and you will see it the way you want it to be, right in front of you. More on CS a little later, when I'll be writing about specific CS SW in detail, with all the juicy stuff included, like which files exactly and how to edit it etc. Most of it is from my GBox experience!!!

MultiCAS EMU and CS!!!

There are various plug-ins. Some are Emulators, emulating Original Smart Cards [OSC], decrypting encrypted satellite, terrestrial or cable channels, if those encryption systems are hacked and so those cards can be read and emulated. One of them is MultiCAS EMU, reading many cards but also opening many channels that are using various hacked CAS [= encryption systems]. Some other plug-ins are a mixture of EMU and CS SW [= Card Sharing SW]. We shall come to it later, when we shall speak of, for instance, MGcamd and CCcam. Mbox, however, is only a CS SW. Some other plug-ins are simply fetching EMUs the working keys from the net. And so on... Enjoy discovering... There are a number of ways to install MultiCAS in your AZbox HD. Directly into the AZbox HD from the net, via FTP or via a programme on ones PC Home Plug-ins enter OpenXCAS by pressing the OK button on your remote and go to Download Executable http://azboxworld.com to press OK on your remote, to see whatever's at the link provided choose the latest MultiCAS version. When done, press Exit button and go to Download Config to see if there is a newer version of a MultiCAS config file from the one you have in your AZbox HD, edit it, if necessary, then reboot!

Checking if MultiCAS EMU works

Go to, say, TV Globo on Hot Bird and wait for the AU to create a working key, meaning MultiCAS is active and functioning properly with all the valid Master Keys.

21 Here is exactly how to do it: Activate MultiCAS via HOME Plug-ins OpenXCAS Activate MultiCAS must NOT have # in front of it, which is done by using the blue button, then restart it by pressing the yellow button (then OK) and the OK button (OK again). Sometimes it is necessary to reboot AZbox HD via remote. Press OK when it restarts, then go into TV part of the Menu TV Globo, which should open up very soon... Well, at least it used to. These days it might not be automatic [= AU = autoupdate = autoroll], so dont waste your time. Digi TV on 1'W might also not be AU but both of them are still watchable with our EMU's. So, you might need to put in the relevant active, working key, as they are both encrypted in Nagra2, which is hacked! You can do it via your remote or by using another plug-in.

Putting a working key into MultiCAS, via remote...

When you don't feel like searching for or can't change the full version what can you do? Find a key on the net, for educational purposes only, of course... <wink, wink> Where? The forums I already mentioned have the keys sections, where I get the active working key and then: HOME button on your remote controller Plug-ins OpenXCAS Activation & Priority Settings put the # in front of all Plug-ins, except MultiCAS, by using the blue button. Get out of the Menu, using the Exit button on your remote Camd Setup OK MultiCAS Edit And Convert Keys sub-menu Nagravision right arrow on your remote "down" arrow on your remote find the Digi TV section Ident [2011 - warning: for Dream, Humax etc. receivers the Ident is 2111 but don't let that worry you!] put the key in now... If, for instance, key 00 was active, one must edit it in 2 parts, as the Nagra keys are "broken" in two parts: for key 00, the first part is Index 00, the other is 10; for key 01 its 01 & 11. So, choose a relevant part of the key [in this case it's 00 20 11 00] by pressing the remote OK button and then one gets a new window to edit the old key. Put the first part in, then hit the Save button on your TV screen, then the other part [in this case it's 00 20 11 01], then Save. Get out of that sub-Menu, using the Exit button, then go to Activation & Priority Settings, restart MultiCAS, using the yellow and/or OK buttons OK then get out using the Home button TV OK and.... [if the key is correct and you put it in precisely] colours [heheeee]!!! Thanx to Ribolovac from Ex-Yu sat forum, for the "how to" video: http://tinyurl.com/of7csd

MultiCAS is now a CS SW, too!

We can now see a Card Splitter sub-menu, so one can share one's card, in built-in card reader, either inside one's home or outside. Allegedly, it has its own protocol. One must have at least FW 0.9.2880, for it to work. Home Plug-ins OpenXCAS Camd Setup MultiCAS. Then, in Smartcard Interface, one finds Smart Card Splitter sub-menu, where one must put in various data, depending on whether one want to be:

22 -server to another receiver, sharing your card with another (only another AZbox HD for now) -client and hook onto somebody else's card/server (CCcam and Newcamd). One can now switch off MultiCAS card-reader/server, by using a little file inside MultiCAS, called cardreader.cfg (sign # in front of a line deactivates it, so the value below enables the internal cardreader, as 0 is the active value): # Disable or Enable option for cardreader of MultiCAS # Disable_CardReader = 1 Disable-Internel CardReader / Disable_CardReader = 0 EnableInternel CardReader Disable_CardReader = 0 One can then use another card reader/server SW, like NewCS, for instance, to read a card one might use in the Internal Card Reader. Lets presume that one found a file to install on a hobbyist forum. What exactly does one do? Unpack that file, using 7-zip. Start your FileZilla Client get into AZbox HD and go to Plugins OpenXCAS MultiCAS delete all "example" files, openxcas.conf and multicas emu_module. Put the following files (from the zipped/rared file you got from a forum) into your AZbox HD: -openxcas.conf -new_bis.key -emu_module files Give emu_module CHMOD to 755 as explained above, then reboot. The right version should be showing in AZbox HD MultiCAS menu. If you put various details for CCcam and Newcamd servers into your previous version of MultiCAS, they should all be preserved! One can see which coloured button in that menu loads and which saves your details. If you have not, the easiest way to put them in is by using telesats MultiCASedit PC application. But one can do it all via a remote, too! That makes AZbox HD a very flexible box! Home Plug-ins [etc. etc. as described above] MultiCAS Smart Card Splitter and CS. Now, using your remote, edit the following: -change the Mode to Client CCcam [if, like me, you have no smartcard to play with and share] - you can connect to other people's servers -choose Server No. 1 [when done with the first one, move this one to 2, then 3 etc. - as many as you need, up to 16, I think...]

23 -choose Host Name Use - write something like: something.dyndns.org (whatever the data you get from your server/"peer", for instance somenickname. dyndns. org or whatever your server [= cardgiver or card-sharer] is called like - THIS IS ONLY AN EXAMPLE!!!), -choose the Port - 12000 or whatever it is that your peer tells you to use -Username - whatever it is [you must have a username that normally your peer gives you; he puts it in his server to allow you access to his server] -Password - whatever it is [as above] -Server Enable -Connect - test it [but only AFTER I enabled the one which appears below it, on the TV screen...] It should say "login success"... Repeat for all the servers you have, to check... Red Button = Save. As soon as I wanted to get out of there, using the Exit button on my remote, it first asked me, in a little pop-up window, if I want to login to all my servers now. Press OK, of course. It will connect to your peers aaaaaand.... colours!!! If not, change the channel and then you should see its attempts to connect on-screen. It should connect! If not - reboot and check again... MultiCAS shows you the information, as to which server its trying to hook onto and if it's a success. Speeding up the work of MultiCAS CCcam Client [and CCcam itself etc.] can be done via prio and ignore files, contained in those Emus/CS SW. Find out more on good forums! Heres some cool help in the task: http://www.vdr-wiki.de/wiki/index.php/CAID#CA-ID If you have peers with a Newcamd server, you can connect to a Newcamd server directly and simultaneously!!! Configure it the same way as CCcam Client, using your remote, for instance. Or you can connect to your own, internal NewCS server, if you are using NewCS 1.20 RC13, which can use the AZbox HD's built-in card reader. Other versions need external card-readers, like Smargo. I cannot as yet write anything about Sbox or OScam, two CS SW servers, like NewCS. Apparently Sbox is already really good, with Internal Cardreader supported and response times at around 120ms, if configured properly. Ill write about it when I can, of course... Btw, when you start card-sharing you will find the server details in /tmp file: ccc_serverstatus.info.

24 Inside the MultiCAS folder one will find openxcas.conf file, like in any other plug-in folder. To see the MultiCAS info ON-SCREEN [on your TV], by pressing the ">>" button on your Remote Control Unit [RCU], in a new, small window, open the openxcas.conf and edit it like this: For CCcam server info: [module] name = MultiCAS daemon = emu_module version = 1.62 INFO = /tmp/ccc_server REFRESH = 5 If you would like to see the CCcam ecm info put: [module] name = MultiCAS daemon = emu_module version = 1.62 INFO = /tmp/ccc_ecm.info REFRESH = 5 For card list put: [module] name = MultiCAS daemon = emu_module version = 1.62 INFO = /tmp/ccc_card_list.info REFRESH = 5 For server list put: [module] name = MultiCAS daemon = emu_module version = 1.62 INFO = /tmp/ccc_serverstatus.info REFRESH = 5 For card reader smartcard info: [module] name = MultiCAS daemon = emu_module version = 1.62 INFO = /tmp/card_slot.info REFRESH = 5 Whatever one puts after refresh, one gets the data refreshed at such intervals [seconds].

25 Thanx to valerica, sattommy and HighHD for the info! Btw, this might not work (for Mbox, CCcam and MGcamd, for instance, it does!) There are plug-ins to install to your AZbox HD in order to see these details, like Kanber_Kavs MultiCASinfo, in this case. But he also wrote Mboxinfo, MultiMenu for MGcamd and realcccaminfo for CCcam for AZbox HD! Amongst other things! K_K is a real gent!!! More on the plug-ins later

MGcamd: the best EMU we have today!!!

MGcamd is an excellent EMU but also CS SW, recently made more complex by adding CCcam to GBox Client. I.e. it opens whatevers publicly hacked, for which one can find the keys on the net via its Emu, plus the CS part. The author wrote it specially for A HD Sigma processor. TechSat_AZK plugin will get the keys and install them into your AZ HD, plus it will tell you which channels you can watch with them

Three ways of installing it

All the necessary files for the "manual installation" [using FileZilla] and advanced info can easily be found on the net. Get MGcamd for AZbox HD from the net and unpack it. Then, youll need to edit it a bit. Initially, I couldn't get it to work as a CS SW. Because I made a silly mistake: I had the same line in my peer.cfg file and priority.list - X lines clashed. I removed it from my peer file and all works just fine!!! Just edit the details in your peer.cfg file as follows: M: { my.dyndns.org { mypass}} # D: { peersserver.dyndns.something { myport hisport { hispass { A3 A3 }}}} D: { peersserver.dyndns.something { myport hisport { hispass { A3 A3 }}}} Password for GBox [MGcamd, Mbox] should be 8 signs, letters from A - F and numbers from 1-9. MGcamd now has its CCcam Client part and cccamd.list file, which needs to be edited with your peers details, looks like this: C: peer.DynDNS.something port username password Edit the priority.list as well, in order to speed up CCcam Client, by giving an advantage to the cards closer to you, in your network One must edit the mg_cfg file now, that is, its G and P lines, in order to choose various options that MGcamd now has, which is necessary, as things get more and more complex (here are my choices): # network mode, use summ for several clients # 00 no network (default)

26 # 01 newcamd netclient # 02 radegast netclient # 04 camd3 netclient # 08 gbox netclient # 32 cccamd netclient, card list saved as /tmp/cccamd.info # (ECM only, supported server version up to 2.1.1, later not work) G: { 41 } # network shares priority # 00 gbox, newcamd, cccamd, radegast, camd3 (default) # 01 camd3, radegast, cccamd, gbox, newcamd # 02 cccamd, newcamd, camd3, gbox, radegast P: { 00 } After that, in your AZbox HD, make the mgcamd folder in OpenXCAS folder, give it CHMOD rights to 755, upload all these files into your AZbox HD and CHMOD to 755 the module itself. In EMU/OpenXCAS/mgcamd folder edit the openxcas.conf to add [module] name = mgcamd daemon = mgcamd version = 1.35a # argument = -a 3 api = yes wait = 15sec INFO = /tmp/ecm.info REFRESH = 2 The last two lines allow you to see the ecm info on your TV screen, by pressing the >> button on your remote. Button next to it [>>|] gives one an option to choose an Emu/CS SW. You'll need to edit the newcamd.list in order to add server configuration, if you have a card, so NewCS can read it and open a package, plus send the data to your peers. Activate MGcamd in OpenXCAS Activation and priority setting, then reboot.

Direct download and installation, from the net into AZbox HD

Home Plug-ins enter OpenXCAS by pressing the OK button on your remote go to Manual Install option to install MGcamd OK on a link choose MGcamd and when it's done reboot. I recommend the islaremota.com/aza link to get the MGcamd_Full version! Once installed, simply activate both of them by removing the # sign in front of both, then restart all the EMUs, then MGcamd in particular, as we explained before - and wait a bit... If necessary, reboot and change a channel.

Installation via a PC application

To do this use Morsers MaZ or telesats ACC. Its self-explanatory, so I am not going to do it here.

What can you clear, using this fab EMU?

The short answer is: everything publicly hacked, by using the EMU function of this great SW [as opposed to its CS part, as a CCcam/GBox client].Thanx to Sorglos, Minicat and RedBull, updating it! The more precise answer is: the best way of seeing in detail which packages/channels are viewable like his, is if you install the TechSat_AZK plugin and have a look!

NewCS: once the best server/card reader we had!

What is NewCS?
This plug-in will read most cards and act as a server, passing your information to your peers. One can connect it with other CS SW by inserting various lines in the client CS SW. Examples will follow! Cards can be read in the embedded reader or an external one, plugged into AZbox HD USB port (Infinity or similar programmer in Phoenix mode). If it isn't a USB programmer you'll need a serial to USB adapter cable, to connect older programmers/card readers, with your AZbox HD. Installation: Home Plug-ins enter OpenXCAS by pressing the OK button on your remote and go to Manual Install option to install NewCS, as described above reboot. When ready to use, in order to start it manually and see what is going on, do it via Telnet (get the PuTTy application, it's free), one needs the following commands: cd /EMU/OpenXCAS/newcs ./newcs nd

Various versions of NewCS which one is for you?

Heres more info, thanx to Tinos just to explain that these are special files, written for AZbox HD specifically, without web interface or chameleon code in it: I can confirm that it is 1.20RC13 there is no webpage support in it. It uses old xmlserver code and there is no chameleon2 support inside. It is a new compile maybe with some more card support in it but old code based on 1.20 so nothing from 1.6x like posted everywhere... But it does support cards like nagra3 R180 from 1.31/1.50, so it is weird compile. NewCS can be run with some arguments when you start it, here are some of them explained: -c configfile, here you can specify the path to a configfile. -h help, will show something similar to this. -v version, this will show when the binary is compiled and which version it is. -nd this is will prevent NewCS from forking

28 Here I will only mention that AZbox HD can also work with the Infinity card reader, in Phoenix mode, reading various cards, in conjunction with NewCS, via USB cable, thanx to Zipperolo: I connected Infinity USB Smart in module mode (Phoenix 3.58 MHz module loaded) to the USB port of the AZbox, and NewCS works perfectly with Sky Italy. The problem it showed in initializing NDS2 cards is somewhat related to the internal reader but totally disappears using the Infinity. The decoder automatically loaded the correct driver and assigned the ttyUSB0 device to the external reader. All I had to do was to configure NewCS properly and now it works perfectly with MGcamd as a client: no freezes no nothing, it just works. This was written by Hans on Satdudez: There are more than one Infinity out, smart, unlimited, serial and maybe more. Zipperolos Smart is working with FDTI Driver in AZHD, the Unlimited does not! Most serial Readers should work, too, with USB2serial, but only with Chipset PL-2303 and FTDI, no other are built in yet! More info on good forums One must mention, however, that now, with a newer version of NewCS (v. 1.20), there is no need for Infinity! Just the standard config files included in the old MGcamd & NewCS, with the new binaries and it works. No freezes at all, except sometimes when you open some menu. Very stable combination overall, I'm satisfied. Following PR2's advice, I just added api = yes wait = 15 in MGcamd's openxcas.conf, that's the only "non-standard" setting I use. The newest version (20th August 2009), 1.67 RC1, doesnt work with the AZbox HD internal reader. The bad news is that NewCS is a closed/finished/stopped project, sadly

Various versions available on different support servers

Let me add that one can now download and install rather easily directly into AZbox HD [from the islaremota link mentioned above] - a pre-configured full version of NewCS or various combinations of NewCS_IncubusCamd, then NewCS_IncubusCamd_Mbox, as well as NewCS_Mbox!!! One must still edit it, in order to make ones own OSC to work. Different OSCs may have different requirements, so one must learn and edit the necessary files accordingly. Let me repeat that NewCS will work really well in conjunction with MGcamd, as its card reader, as well as Mbox, and CCcam CS SW. One must activate it by removing the # sign in front of it, if one is to use it.

Two examples of NewCS configuration as card reader/server

Thanx to Tinos for the following example!

29 Version that works with internal cardreader is the one from download server 1.20 and new version for external USB2serial is 1.67. Here is what you need to edit in that case (the essential lines are in bold)... newcs.xml: <?xml version="1.0"?>

Last notes on NewCS

I will try to bother guys to add more of such examples for various cards, on various good forums... Start from here: http://www.exyusat.com/mbox/index.php? for the Mbox connection... Not to forget: NewCS works really well in tandem with MGcamd, in full capacity, i.e. like a server but so that the card can get the EMMs, i.e. it can be updated. That does not work with Mbox, although we can hear they are working on it.

A few new card reader/server plug-ins for AZbox HD

There is a new programmer writing a card reading plug-in for AZbox. The plug-in is called Sbox and it can be directly and easily downloaded into your AZbox HD and installed. Apparently it works really well, its fast (120ms response time), so it seems the best for AZbox HD at the moment. Sbox 0.0.4-7 #4 (PowerPC, MIPS, X86, wrt54gl, SIGMA & SH4) -Fixed: some improvements (again), sorry +Added support for NOI smartcards (NAGRA over IRDETO) +Added support for more NAGRA smartcards +Added phoenix support for IRDETO smartcards +Added phoenix support for NDS smartcards SmartCards Supported: System |EMM|ECM|SCI|Phoenix|Smartreader| Nagra2/3 |Yes|Yes|Yes|Yes |Yes | Nagra Tiger/NCMED |Yes|Yes|Yes|Yes |Yes | Viaccess |No |Yes|Yes|Yes |Yes | Seca |Yes|Yes|Yes|Yes |Yes | Irdeto |Yes|Yes|Yes|No |No | NDS |?? |Yes|Yes|No |Yes | Conax |?? |Yes|Yes|?? |?? | Protocols Supported: System |Server|Client|EMM|ECM| Newcamd |Yes |Yes |Yes|Yes| Unzip. Move the folder SboxCAS to OpenXCAS. To make it start automatically, edit openxcas.conf: [module] name = SboxCAS daemon = sbox version = 0.0.4-7 xcasapi = FALSE Remember to chmod 755 to sbox.sigma and chmod 644 to other files. sbox.conf: [main] server_only = 1 log = 0 userspath = / plugins / OpenXCAS / SboxCAS / users.sbox webinterface = 1

Not only that but now we also have OScam, an OpenSource type of collaborative effort of all who are interested and capable, as well as MPCS, reading cards and emulating, i.e. opening everything that is hacked, using keys, not just via CS!

How to install Mbox CS SW: step-by-step!!!

Prerequisites a- Download the latest Mbox and unpack it. Note: for AZbox HD you will need only the following files - from the comprehensive package for all kinds of different receivers, PC's and DVB-S cards: mbox_module [do no touch this one] and mbox.cfg [the latter must be edited according to your needs]; b- However, port.list file in the package is only an example. Also, mbox.prio , which together with ignore.list and allow.list one has to edit according to ones own needs/setup. By using the port file you tell the module to go to your local card and not to the CS. The other files are helping to get the best response from your peers, from the CS part of the SW. They tell Mbox which provider should be open by which card, which to ignore or allow. Prio file, of course, prioritises. It works well with packages encrypted in various encryption systems. Depending on which card in your CS network works best, you tell Mbox to prioritise that encryption system over all others. It will help speed up and stabilise the work of Mbox or other CS SW using such files. Already in Mbox cwshare.cfg file one has the possibility to set priorities, what to open from where [which card/which receiver]. We shall come back to it all a little later... c- Find good mbox.prio, ident.info, ignore.list and allow.list on the net and edit them according to your needs. More on that subject later. d- Note your PC's and your AZbox HD's IP addresses. e- If you already havent, download PuTTy from the net [freeware].

Create or edit your files

Firstly, mbox.cfg file should be edited, using a Unix editor, as follows [leave the rest be]: Z: { 11 01 } { 192.168.x.xxx 8000 } - this line you need to edit with your PC's correct IP address, of course, plus the port, so Black's plug-in Mbox Control Centre would work... B: { 0 0 0 } T: { /tmp/ } K: { /EMU/OpenXCAS/MboxCAS/ } P: { /tmp/pmt.tmp } Warning: make sure you get the file from the latest Mbox package! Then, edit that one; don't just copy the old one, as changes might occur in the meantime. One of the examples was the U line...

36 Now, create your openxcas.conf, which should look like this, as Mower said [you can create a new one or edit an old one, using a Unix editor, as mentioned above]: [module] name = MboxCAS daemon = mbox_module version = 1.00 Your cwshare.cfg should look like this [this is but a template but all you need to do is just edit the M and G lines at the bottom]. # Mbox cardsharing config file # # CaID #H: { 091F0FF3 } # Send ECM's at maximum 5 cards (please use this as default) X: { 8 } # Preferred cards ids (up to 32) #X+: { 09610000:5 } #X+: { 093B0000:10 } #X+: { 0B000000:5 } # max card's distance to use for ecm I: { 3 } #NDS system -> Resending ECM(s) on timeout interval #N: { 400 200 } N: { 400 200 } #NDS system -> Resending ECM(s) on timeout interval # #4000 (4 seconds)-> resend current ecm on boxid if no dcw #2000 (2 seconds) -> wait 2 more seconds for dcw ,if no dcw on time resend ecm(s) to all boxid's # O: { 4000 2000 } #Connecting to newcamd server program Newcs # M: { my.dyndns.something { mypass}} # G: { mypeer's.dyndns.something { myport hisport { hispass { A3 A3 }}}} G: { mypeer's.dyndns.something { myport hisport { hispass { A3 A3 }}}} Password for Mbox is 8 signs long: letters from A-F and numbers from 1-9. FTP your files to AZbox HD Connect with your AZbox HD, using an FTP client [FilleZilla client]. Put in your AZbox HD IP to the Host box [something like 192.168.x.x], use root as username and azbox [or leave it empty or whatever else you may have changed it into] as password, port 22 [Mbox CC will use port 21] and then click on Quickconnect. Later, you will only need Reconnect, under Server, as FZ will remember the data you put in. Now that you are connected, go to EMU folder click on OpenXCAS folder.

37 In OpenXCAS folder make the MboxCAS folder via FilleZilla FTP Client, [Linux is case sensitive, so be careful when typing]. How do you do it? Here it is: inside the OpenXCAS folder right click on empty space, in order to initiate various options Create directory name it MboxCAS confirm with OK. It should be given the rights, this folder, in order to enable changes in it, so in FilleZilla: right click on MboxCAS folder File permissions 755 OK. Copy [drag and drop] into it: mbox_module, mbox.cfg, cwshare.cfg and port.list [it's not necessary, if you do not have a card and server]. Give the rights [right click on it File permissions 755 OK] to mbox_module only. In your AZbox HD, using your FileZilla Client, find the /EMU/OpenXCAS/ folder [one up from MboxCAS]. In it you should find - and if you haven't got it then create it - a file called module.seq. Edit it. It should look something like this: MboxCAS #mgcamd #MultiCAS #newcs #...and so on, depends on what you have installed in your AZbox HD... Also, right click on it File permissions 755 OK. That's it!!! At this point, we need no other "scripts" [files], says Mower! According to Mower's advice all you now need to do is to try to start the Mbox module, using Telnet [PuTTy or some such proggy], to make sure the module will start and there are no errors. So, start the PuTTy.exe by double clicking on it, log in with root as username [hit Enter on your keyboard], azbox as password [Enter], then, the following 3 commands [Copy & Paste and hit Enter for each], to kick-start Mbox and you'll see the traffic/log/what's going on... cd /EMU/OpenXCAS/MboxCAS/ chmod 755 mbox_module ./mbox_module If it isn't working I would advise you to REBOOT, then try the Telnet thing again. It should all be working just fine now...

The next Mbox stage if needed...

If everything is OK and you didn't mess up the editing you can now try to experiment with other "scripts", like mbox.sh file, which looks like this: cd /EMU/OpenXCAS/MboxCAS ./mbox_module /EMU/OpenXCAS/MboxCAS/mbox.cfg &

38 Save it as mbox.sh and put it into the MboxCAS folder, CHMOD rights to 755, reboot and restart Mbox, if needed. Some think this is not only unnecessary but also counter-productive... If everything isn't working well enough, you can then try to add to MboxCAS folder [to improve the way it's working]: mbox.prio, allow and ignore.list files. In my OpenXCAS folder I have one more openxcas.conf which I will explain a little later. Thanx to Ribolovac from EX-YU forum [my translation and edit]: Let me add, re. the C lines: C lines are, in fact, the connections to the NewCS server, either from your local NewCS (local cards) placed in the AZbox HD or from other boxes. But what I really wanted to mention is the following: if you want your peer to see the smartcard you own (and read via NewCS) as a local card, then your C line in cwshare file must start with a local IP, i.e. 127.0.0.1. In any other case, like DNS or an IP address, like 192.168.xxx.xxx, the card won't be seen as local, provided that the card is in your box, which has installed both Mbox and NewCS. Thanx to Playdiune [my edit and additions]: Normal use of mbox: 0- mbox_module 1- cwshare.cfg 2- mbox.cfg With local cards: 1- port.list ( newcs and mpcs connection ) 2- device_number.list ( direct cards ) Optional: 1- ident.info - used to know a providers name 2- ignore.list - used to ignore some providers and allow all the others 3- allow.list allow certain providers 4- prio.list - prioritise some cards over others, in a certain sequence

Mbox Control Centre

What is Mbox Control Centre?
MCC is written in aid of Mbox Card Sharing Software, which will allow you to control, edit and monitor the work of Mbox. Install it on your PC, operating under Windows [2K, XP or later]. Make sure you have installed on your PC Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or higher. One can easily download it from http://tinyurl.com/mgm73v Then, one can install the latest Mbox Control Centre. One can do it without uninstalling an older version, if one had MCC installed already. In fact, it's better not to uninstall it, as the new installation, done over the old one, will keep the old one's settings! So, the new version will just

39 function, without one having to go through setting it all up, every time from scratch. And this is quite useful, as it takes a bit of time. I am about to describe all of the steps needed...

Settings
Start MCC: in the Settings tab choose a language and give the profile a name. Then, write the IP address of your Sat TV box, so your MCC [which you just installed to your PC] can make contact with Mbox installed in your Sat TV receiver! One can check it in one's sat TV box by going to HOME Settings Internet part, using your remote. Put in the path to your Mbox files. In AZbox HD files are in the same folder: Username: root Password: azbox [unless you changed it or there was nothing there to, begin with] Mbox Filename: Mbox IP address: 192.168.x.xxx [whatever is in your setup] Path-Mbox: /EMU/OpenXCAS/MboxCAS/ Path-Keys: /EMU/OpenXCAS/MboxCAS/ Path-Temp: /tmp Path-Mbox.cfg: /EMU/OpenXCAS/MboxCAS/mbox.cfg You will be able to edit mbox.cfg, and cwshare.cfg, for instance, from within MCC itself, while Mbox is in operation, once you set it up properly. We shall come to that later. I have ticked the Passive FTP option. Save!

Edit your mbox.cfg

First, one must edit one's mbox.cfg file! In order to see the traffic between your box and other boxes on the net, as it is happening, one can write the following line in mbox.cfg file: Z: { 11 01 } { 192.168.x.xxx 8000 } - where xxx stands for your PC's IP address. Then, Mbox will send the data from your sat TV box to your PC. In the Trace tab of your MCC you will be able to see what is going on. We shall come back to it. Check your PC's IP address in your Sys-Tray [lower right hand corner of your PC screen] or Network show all to Properties. Check that in your MCC, under tab "Trace" you have the same port, which is 8000. For Mbox in AZbox HD: K: { /EMU/OpenXCAS/MboxCAS/ } Leave the rest be! Make sure you always use the mbox.cfg that comes with the version of Mbox you are using! I.e. the one which is appropriate for your version of Mbox! Why? Some parameters might change, like B: { 0 0 0 } recently changed...

A few functions explained

Start Mbox on an encrypted channel. Then MCC. In the main Mbox tab click on Refresh. You should see some information regarding the encryption system [CAS], if you have done everything correctly and you have a connection between Mbox and MCC. Then, click on Reload, see if your peers are online. If all is well, you will see some of your peers in green colour [= online]. If it isn't happening and you did everything right reboot your receiver and restart Mbox. When you do have the connection, go to the Trace tab, click on Reload in the upper hand corner, then Start trace. You should see the traffic on the PC screen. Click on Reload again, if necessary, to see something like this: [13:33:23] Searching CW cache for CaID 0x1702, pid 0x1742...no CW in cache [13:33:23] [DMX - 0] ECM (0x1742) send to xxxxxxxx.blogdns.com ( C444 DC49 5195 3DD8 DF3E EA06 7036 8B02 ) [13:33:23] <-CW (<-0) received from xxxxxxxx.blogdns.com (xxxx NOT in list) (192 ms) [13:33:23] ===== Network ECM on CaID 0x1702, pid 0x1742 ==== [13:33:23] prov: D57E [13:33:23] CW0: 29 97 F7 B7 CD 6B 9D D5 [13:33:23] CW1: F6 1F 53 68 E0 A1 B1 32

Ignore/allow/prio files for Mbox!

Depending on the log, one can then see which PID is [un]successful [failed with PID...] and that gives you the tool to make or edit your preference lists. You have 3 possibilities in the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page, "Select/edit filename": ignore, allow or prio. After you choose one, click on Download. Now, if you had the file in Mbox folder of your receiver, you will be able to play with it and try to make your Mbox function more efficiently. One can add the data one wants to receive to allow.list. In the ignore.list it's the opposite - the stuff not to bother with. Mbox.prio should set priorities in multiple PID streaming cases, so Mbox searches for an answer from virtual cards in a specific order that suits you better.

Other functions in MCC

You can now edit other Mbox files, as mentioned above, like your mbox.cfg or cwshare.cfg from MCC interface. When you're done click on Upload. If necessary, reboot AZbox HD and restart Mbox and MCC. There are more functions in MCC but now you have the principles of use and you can explore it to your hearts content. It gives you a lot of control over what you are doing! A note: Mbox project is abandoned, as other pursuits are on the cards

Native (Dreambox) CCcam hacked for AZbox HD

The full CCcam for DreamBox [server, re-share and all] is ready to be used in AZbox HD, guys... The development will go on, no doubt but for now, we have the privilege to test the first 2.1.1 version, thanx to a few guys who figured out how to make it all "compatible"... Please, download the file from here:

41 Originally Posted by kanber_kav on Satdudez forum http://www.mediafire.com/?izmdrz2qlnm - cccam file and script More info on good forums. However, I bet there are some non-IT people on this forum, who are not too familiar with Linux etc. I bet a few will need some simple, straightforward, detailed and more or less step-by-step advice, how to use the complete package that Kanber_Kav put up. So, how I did it: Following The_Ripper's great work and advice, I used K_K's version of T_R's files, and I installed the package like so... I downloaded cccam-azbox-2.1.1 [= "emu.rar"] archive from K_K's post. I decompressed it (right click on it [7zip Extract here]). I got EMU folder and 2 sub-folders: -libs -OpenXCAS I went into the libs folder and edited CCcam.cfg to put the details of my peer's server, as advised in the file itself [added this line under #C: line in the file]: C: peer.DynDNS.something port username password I went into OpenXCAS folder and edited the following files [in order to make them correspond to what I have in my AZbox HD, so you need to do the same in accordance with your setup]: -module.seq [this one is a must, depending on what you have in your machine - here is mine] #mgcamd #MultiCAS #MboxCAS #SboxCAS dvbapiCAS -openxcas.conf [I am told this one isn't a must but I did it anyway...] [modules] count = 5 active_auto = true active_1 = MboxCAS active_2 = MultiCAS active_3 = mgcamd active_4 = SboxCAS active_5 = dvbapiCAS [module_1] ap= Yes name = MboxCAS daemon = mbox_module wait=5 sec version = 0.6_10

42

[module_2] name = MultiCAS daemon = emu_module version = 1.62D-A03 [module_3] name = mgcamd daemon = mgcamd version = 1.35a # argument = -a 3 [module_4] name = SboxCAS daemon = sbox version = 0.0.4-7 xcasapi = FALSE [module_5] name = dvbapiCAS daemon = dvbapi.sh version = 1.00 api=No wait =5sec I used FileZilla Client to FTP it to my AZbox HD receiver and copied the lib folder into the folder EMU, then went into it and gave rights, i.e. CHMOD 755 to all the files inside. Then, I copied the content of the OpenXCAS folder from my HDD to the AZbox HD OpenXCAS folder. I went into the folder itself and gave CHMOD to 755 to the module and .sh file. I didn't even have to reboot: I just restarted all the EMUs [via the Fast Forward button yellow button OK], then the dvbapiCAS with the OK button OK. It worked!

A new 2.1.3 and 2.1.4 versions are on support servers!

HOME Plugins OpenXCAS Download Executable http://techsat.info/AZCamd CCcam_214.tgz. Make sure you have space in your Emu section (mine is now 93% full, says MaZ)!

How to control CCcam!

We have AZbox HD Monitoring Tool or this is how you can see your CCcam details, like who is your server, what s/he has on it, who is your client etc. etc. In your browser's address-box put in: http://192.168.x.x:16001 where x = your AZbox HD's IP address. One can also find PC applications for such tasks, like CCcamInfoPHP - search a bit and ye shall find That's enough to have your AZbox HD do its magic for you, even at this, Beta stage of development!!! We await further developments to make it more stable, faster and generally

43 even more capable and user friendly!!! We wanna see DMM blown out of the water, as it were... hehe... Good luck!!!

8) Additionally:
Additional plug-ins and how to deal with them
There are quite a few now. Ill only mention a few, mainly the ones helping with the EMUs/CS SW. The principles of installation and usage will easily be seen on those examples. One can: -install them from the net, directly into the AZbox HD or -download them onto your PC and then into your AZbox HD. If the former is the case its dead easy, even my dead granny could do it, as described/made clear above, on numerous pieces of SW! If the latter is the case, there are two ways. Let me explain the first possibility on the tevee4yu plug-in, by Chemstar. Unpack, put/FTP the 2 files you get into /tmp folder of your AZbox HD HOME Plug-ins OpenXCAS Red button Install (tmp/plugins.lst) OK tevee4yu OK when installed hit the Exit button go to tevee4yu OK. Use numbers 1 - 7 on your remote to move between packages. Use buttons Menu and Check on your remote to move within packages. Use arrows > & < to move up and down within a channel... Mboxinfo and similar plug-ins by Kanber_Kav (and other enthusiast programmers) are all installed the same way. For instance: download mboxinfo.tar.gz by Kanber_Kav, from Satdudez extract it to AZbox HD folder /tmp; you will get two files (mboxinfo.plugin & plugins.lst) HOME Plugins red button to install mboxinfo. Alternatively, place it on USB memory stick extract go to plug-ins red button Install (USB). We now have Web Interface PHP [httpd for shorter], developed first by Joseba [non PHP] and then by Kiovo [the PHP version], with many options, ever more tools and toys. Here is the "How to" (its a little bit more complex but if you persevere you will succeed!):

44 0) If you had installed an earlier version - delete it and reboot!!! If you have many plug-ins installed you will have to uninstall some stuff to make some space for httpd, as it is big and the space for EMUs [where httpd is going to] is rather limited!!! 1) Unpack httpd [right click on it 7-zip Extract here]. 2) Start FileZilla create httpd sub-folder in EMU folder [right click on Emu folder Create Directory] and make sure it has "the rights" = CHMOD it to 755, if by a miracle it isn't already 755 [right click on it File Attributes 755 OK]. 3) Drag & drop the whole content of httpd folder [you got by extracting it onto your HDD] into the newly created httpd folder in your AZbox HD. 4) This might not be needed for anything except the thttpd file but I did it anyway: CHMOD to every folder and file in httpd folder and also inside the azscripts sub-folder [including the monkus sub-folder and its content] CHMOD to 755 all of them [until I learn better, hehe...] 5) In the folder include you will find the file ip.conf right click on it View/Edit [I connected it with UE32, you can choose another Unix editor, like Notepad2] edit the IP address to put in AZbox HD IP address, like 192.168.x.xxx Save! 6) Do the same for telnet.conf file but don't Save it yet! 7) If you have azbox as your password, then in the same file remove # in front of the following line, so it looks like this: Script.script=login:|root|Password:|azbox|MMP[~]$ |df h In that case, put the # sign in front of the following line, to look like this: #Script.script=login:|root|MMP[~]$ |df h If you have no password - it's the other way round. If you changed your password - edit the password ["azbox"] itself. Then Save! 8) I did the same thing in iperf.conf file [steps 5 & 7]! 9) Reboot! 10) Start PuTTy write root for Login and hit Enter button on your keyboard, then azbox for password [if you have it or whatever you may have changed it into] and Enter then cd /EMU/httpd and Enter, then ./httpd and hit Enter. Here is the whole thing, to see what it looks like: MMP login: root Password: MMP[~]$ cd /EMU/httpd MMP[httpd]$ ./httpd

45 This will trigger the following: kill AZBox webinterface killall: thttpd: no process killed killed start AZBox webinterface You can now close PuTTy. 11) Start Firefox and in the address box put in the AZbox HD address and hit Enter. Like, http://192.168.x.xxx - where x = your AZbox HD IP address. 12) In your Firefox you will see AZbox Tools, on your left side, in the lower corner click on it if you want for the httpd plug-in to Auto-start click on Enable Webinterface Autostart! You will see this, then: generate startscript cp /EMU/httpd/S80httpd /DISK2/etc/start.d/ chmod 755 /DISK2/etc/start.d/S80httpd AZBox Webinterface now starts whenever the AZbox HD restarts! P.S. With this version I cannot stream any live TV to my PC yet. Screenshot capture doesn't work if you are watching something from your USB memory stick or HDD, for instance. Or for Live TV, if you do not have a USB memory stick or HDD connected to your AZbox HD etc. However, it's getting better and better. You will eventually be able to programme your machine to record something from work, never leaving your desk, for instance...

Many plug-ins to go...

We have loads by now and many will follow, no doubt, as hackers have gained access to various tools for Sigma processor and AZbox HD FW in particular but also to do even more, as we shall see soon... Just try them out, see if they are something you need or if they amuse you... One more time: in the lower right hand corner of your Elite model remote, just above the USB button, there is a fast forward button [> >|], which will give you direct access to various important plug-ins, namely EMU/CS SW plug-ins, like Mbox, MGcamd, CCcam, MultiCAS and the like, once you bother to install them well...

How to change your AZbox HD's password

Not so unimportant, if you want to keep the undesirables away from your box... Thanx Lordshoa!!! OK I wanted to show you how to change the password on your AZbox with PuTTy. I thought of using pictures but it was a little long winded so went with video. I done it a few times till I got a quick reasonable result. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPGYH0e1q2g

How to stream stuff from your PC/Laptop with XP to AZbox HD

Start your Windows Explorer go to the main folders or even whole partitions you want shared right click on them Sharing and Security, then gave the rights Allow to be shared. I also went to Customise and Apply the template to all subfolders Apply and OK. Then - just in case - I went a bit "lower" and repeated the whole thing to the Music, Video and Photo folders, one by one, and lo & behold - NTFS or not, firewall or not, who cares - all the movies and other media files are playable, in AZbox HD, using its Multimedia Player!!! How do you do it? If you press the HOME button on your remote and go to Movies, for instance, you will be able to navigate to the folders you just enabled to be shared and watch a movie on your AZbox HD. Or listen to the Music in your music Menu or pictures in your Photos Menu... We are still waiting for various limits to be removed - for all multimedia files, mind... Photos have the max resolution of 1920 x 1080 and so on... Apparently, a new Chief Programmer should focus Opensat engineers' attention to various bugs, in the bid to finally get the FW 1.0. Ahem...

Streaming from PC/Laptop with Vista to AZbox HD

On your PC/laptop: go to Start Control Panel Programs and Features Turn Windows Features on or off here I added/installed anything even remotely connected with whatever I need to use for AZbox HD and Multimedia [Telnet Client, TFTP Client, Services for NFS...], since lay people like me cannot know exactly what's what in there, hehe... Start Control Panel Network and Sharing Centre allow: Network Discovery File Sharing Media Sharing So, those to ON! The rest to OFF. At the bottom of that page click on "Show me all the files and folders I am sharing". Now, go to a partition or a folder or a file you want to "share" right click Properties Sharing Advanced Sharing Share This Folder Permissions Everyone [only "Read" is enough, from all the options there] Apply OK. Security Everyone. Customise All items choose/tick "Also apply this template to all subfolders" Apply OK or Close, whatever's there... Now, grab your AZbox HD remote: HOME Movies .. Network find your Home Network, then your PC, then the partition/folder where your films are stored and choose...

47 The same for Music find your music or Photos find them [as I said, not all will work, as there are some limitations they need to stop stretching our photos, too...].

Streaming from PC/Laptop with Windows7 to AZbox HD

I first went to Windows7 components and activated everything network related there: Start Control Panel Programs and Features Turn Windows Features On or Off tick the Media Features, Network stuff, Telnet Client, TFTP etc. OK. Next, go to Start Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Centre click on Choose homegroup and sharing options choose the folders to share. Tick the option to "stream your pictures, music and videos on my home network". Click on Change Advanced Sharing Options. You are in Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Centre\Advanced sharing settings: turn on network discovery turn on file and printer sharing stop the "Public Folder Sharing". Go to Media Streaming Options, which is in Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Media streaming options and there... Name your media library [your nick, for instance] Show devices in the local network Allow all Media programs etc. etc. Allowed. Go back [BACK button]: leave the 128b encryption to on turn off password protected sharing allow Windows to manage homegroup connections. Then, start your Windows Explorer and find all the folders you want to share; right click on each folder and go to Properties; click on Share tab click on the little arrow downwards to get the drop down menu and choose Everyone, then click on Add. Give "Everyone" the permission to READ ONLY and click on Share. You have more controls/options under Advanced Sharing button in the little window, too. Go to it and check the permissions etc. When you're done, in the main Properties little window, finish by clicking on Apply and Close. Reboot your PC or at least reboot your AZbox HD and try finding your PC and the folders to stream (I do it via File Manager, for all kinds of files). Sometimes, one needn't reboot, mind!

Streaming from AZbox HD to your PC/laptop

One needs at least FW 0.9.4283 or later, in AZbox HD: Insert a USB memory stick into your AZbox HD, if you havent got a HDD attached to it. If you havent got it, download VLC from here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ and install on your PC. Start VLC on your PC. On your remote, press Menu to the left of OK button Streaming don't change anything except duration [put what you want, like "Not define"] Start. In VLC go to Media Streaming Network choose Protocol to UDP in the drop-down menu address the same as in AZbox HD, i.e. 224.1.1.100 and Port to 9000 Stream and again Stream. Alternatively, one can put the real IP address in. It takes trying a few times to kick-start it but it does work now, after I rebooted, when it froze the first time! Obviously, it doesnt work properly and as well as it should but its a start SD is fine. HD is blocky, at my end - but I use both wired and wireless connection. Good if you're in bed, watching TV on a laptop, One can change channels via the PHP application I explained earlier.

INSTEAD OF CONCLUSION
Sigma processor, its driver and AZbox HD owners' blues...
Hugo of Opensat chose both the HW and the company to tie it all up nicely. Logics suggests he should take not only the credit, for whatever was done well but also the blame for whatever was poor or worse, even when others were to blame directly for not living up to their part of the bargain!

CI slot modification of HW necessary

For instance, who was guilty and who as responsible for the bad CI CAM compatibility, so a HW modification was necessary for one of the slots, to work with various pieces of HW?

Twin tuner debacle

Or for example, when Sigma people, the processor and chipset manufacturers, promised him that their product can accommodate two streams at the same time, one from each tuner? Hugo and co. then kept promising a solution for this problem, only to suddenly deny they ever mentioned it?!? They had to put together a new version of HW (Premium+ model) and even that is inferior to similar products on the market, because it can barely record 1 additional channel from the second tuner, while others can handle up to 6 at the same time, if we are talking twin tuner receivers

49 Later they pretended, like spoilt brats, they never advertised their product as twin tuner, only as combo. Ergo, no balls to take responsibility for their own choices: promised and then I am seriously disappointed by such poor, silly and even offensive conduct! Sigmas support was lacking in other areas, as well!

Streaming isnt working as advertised, as well!

I have to mention the following: do not pull your hair out needlessly over streaming, regardless of the method from an external HDD or USB memory stick or from PC via [W]LAN), to AZbox HD is NOT working very well when its a bit more demanding! (W)LAN and USB streaming are still limited/capped at a too low a level for high-bitrate mkv or bluray files and we are not amused, as the processor would collapse if it were removed.... As we have seen by the excellent efforts by an unsupported KGD team, that is largely due to bloatware in Celruns FW, which can be partially remedied by prioritising Multimedia processes over the un-needed ones. Instead, Celrun/OS have opted to go down the overclocking route

Promises, promises for a very long time now but what are the results???
Even though we have a new chief programmer for a while now but we have yet to see any real improvements worth applause!!! Geeko apparently has plenty of experience from Enigma projects but he failed to bring in any fresh approach and creative impulse, at least in any measurable, efficient manner. The end is nowhere nearer now than before he arrived, sadly! Frankly, I have never seen such an angry official forum and I have been around for a while now OS customers do no longer choose their words carefully and I think OS should be afraid

Advantages which are no longer sufficient!!!

Sigma chip has a number of advantages, as a multimedia product, with all the licences paid for! It is being used in Blu-Ray players, it can handle mkv files of high bitrate, the high definition variety or HD, as they advertise it. But if you attempt anything of the sort, a wee bit more demanding - do not place your bets on AZbox HD, I say!!! So, even if it so good on paper it seems we shall be waiting quite a bit longer for the darn thing to start performing as billed or at least in the vicinity of What is baffling is that there is a very similar processor used in Opensat's Popcorn Media Player, we are told, which functions just fine. The one in AZbox HD apparently is even more capable but still... Patience, they say but for how long?!? The long awaited and promised FW 1.0 is nowhere to be seen by a long shot, from what we can tell It seems to me and a few more people, far more knowledgeable than me, that the AZbox HD ship has sailed, sadly In other words, the momentum is lost, other firms came up with better products, support for them is freely flowing at an impressive rate

The only and very last chance for AZbug HD

Alternatively, it might be good for all sides, if the tools find their way to an independent team or teams of programmers, especially enthusiasts, who could re-write the lot... The API, get rid of the OpenXCAS altogether, better drivers etc. Then, we could get rid of the cap for LAN and USB transfers/streaming, get faster and more responsive, plus more stable FW and all the plug-ins... That would be living up to is potential as things are its a sitting duck for its competitors

The many bugs of AZbug HD are listed here

Here are the FW bugs listed by the most organised people (you guessed it - it's the Germans!), where you can contribute towards some healthy pressure to getting AZbox HD back on track: http://www.myazbox.de/Wiki/index.php?title=Bugtracker From this forum: http://forum.azbox.to/wbb3/index.php
