A Study of scientific attitides and interest of secondary school students in relation to some variables.

This study is aimed to study scientific attitudes and interest of secondary school students of Ahmedabad district in relation to some variables.Total 960 students studying in std VIII, IX & X are selected by incidental sampling method. Among them there are 480 girls and 480 boys. The researcher has used science interest measurement test constructed by L.N.Dubey and science attitude test constructed by smt Avinash Greval Both the tests were translated in to Gujarati language. The survey method is used and t - test of data calculated. The results shows that level of signified interest found higher in girls that that of boys. Standard does not effect on the science interest. In this way the level of scientific attitudes also found higher in girls than that of boys. Students of std VIII has the lowest level of attitudes and students of std has the highest level. No Significant effect of Gender on average score of scientific attitudes is found.

Introduction :So many years have been passed to become modern human being from primitive human. During this period the need and though have played an important role. New invention helped the man to live happy and comfortable life which affected the social changes. The average life span of human being is increased due to new inventions in the field of Ayurvedic medicines. Industries are also developed science is spread in almost all the field of human life. The development of science depend on the effective teaching of science subject at school level. Some people have a lot of information about science but the lack scientific attitude and interest. The results of last some years shows that the performance of students in science subject is decreased. The students taking admission in science stream are also shows diminulation one of the causes of such diminulation may be lacking of scientific attitude and interest . This research intends to know the attitudes and interest of second students towards science subject. Objective of study :Every work or research has some objectives in it. A work or research with out the objectives has no meaning the objective of this study are as under. (i) To examine the effect of gender on interest of science of students. (ii) To examine the effect of gender on student's attitudes towards science. (iii) To examine the effect of standard on student's level of scientific interest (iv) To examine the effect of standard on student's level of scientific attitude. Hypothesis :(i) There will be no significant difference in average

score of interest of students towards science. (ii) There will be no significant difference in average score of scientific attitudes of students. (iii) There will be no significant difference in average score of score of scientific interest of students of std viii, ix and x. (iv) There will be no significant difference in average score of scientific attitudes of students of std viii, ix and x. Population :The student studying in std. vii, ix and x in secondary schools situated in Ahmedabad District becomes the population of this study. Sample :The secondary school students from schools situated at Taluka centers in Ahmedabad District were selected by incidental sampling method Total 960 students studying in std viii, ix and x from these schools are selected Among them 480 were boys and 480 girls. Tool :The researcher has used science interest test by L.N.Dubey and science attitude test by smt Avinash gravel was used. He has translated this original tests from Hindi to Gujarati language. 64 statements were included in science interest test and 20 statements in science attitude test. The reliability was of science interest test was 0.63 and its validity was 0.68. In this way the reliability of science attitude test was 6.62 and validity was 0.72. Methodology :A survey method was used. Data Analysis :T - value was calculated after found out mean, SD and variation of Data.

Table - 1 shows that the t - value is 5.65 which is significant at level of 0.05 and 0.01. It is concluded that the effect of gender is clearly found on level of interest of secondary students towards science. This level is found higher in girls than that of boys. Table - 3 shows that no significant difference of interest toward science is found Means the standard does not effect on interest in science. The interest in all students are found equal. The attititides toward science is found higher in students of std.x than in students of std viii.

Table - 4 shows that significant difference is found at level of 0.05 and 0.01 in attitudes towards science Means standard has significant effect on attitudes in science. The attitudes level was found lower in studying of std viii and higher in std. (1) The girls have more interest in science subject than that of boys. The students of std.
