A Study of Attitudes of the Students of Standard-11 Towards English Subject

Present Study has been done to know the Attitudes on English Subject of the Standard-11 in the study effect of Gender and Area on Attitudes on English Subject of students- 11 checked. Total 400 students were selected from schools of Mehsana. Attitude Scale made by researcher by Likert Method. On the basis of the score obtain by the students t-values were calculated to know Attitudes of students on English Subjects. Significant difference of Gender was not found, effect of Area and effect of Gender on Urban area student found on the Attitudes on English Subject of Standard-11 students.

Introduction : In today's world of InfoTech India taking a leading role. Along with E-commerce, E-business, Etrading and E-mail, E-job has also changed. In fact, we have entered an electronic age of innovative changes. At this time the students have to think very deeply while selecting subject at higher secondary level. The selection of subject becomes very important in organizing their future educational and professional career by which the student's development becomes possible. The study of English becomes very important for all around development of a person. The knowledge of English would be very useful in understanding the other people In the present research an effort has been made to know the students' attitude towards English subject Objective : (1) To study the effect of gender on the attitude toward English subject of the students of Standard-11. (2) To study the effect of areas on the attitude toward English subject of the students of Standard 11. Hypothesis : H01 : There will be no significance difference be tween mean score of the boys and girls of Standard-11 on the attitude scale of the English subject. H02 : There will be no significance difference be tween mean score of the Urban and Rural area students of Standard-11 on the attitude scale of the English subject.

H03 : There will be no significance difference be tween mean score of Boy and Girls of Rural area of Standard-11 on the attitude scale of the English subject. H04 : There will be no significance difference be tween mean score of Boy and Girls of Urban area of Standard-11 on the attitude scale of the English subject. Research Method : In the present research the researcher used Survey Method as it was necessary to accumulate information from the huge sample in a very short time duration Population : In the present research the students studying in Standard-11 of the Gujarati medium higher secondary schools of Mehsana district are selected as the universe of population. Sampling : The researcher selected the sample of the schools and students by using stratified random sampling method. Tool : A self prepared attitude scale prepared as per the Likert method was used as a tool in the present research. 20 positive and 20 negative sentences, thus total of 40 sentences. Method of Analysis : The statistical technique was used for examine, the total score mean, S.D. and t-test Used. Testing of Hypothesis : See Table 1 Table-1 shows that the t-value is 0.27 which is not

significant. Thus HO1 is accepted this shows that there is not effect of Gender on the attitudes on English subject of the Standard-11th Students.Table-2 shows that the t-value is 8.72 which is significant at 0.01 level. Thus HO2 is rejected this shows that there is effect of Area on the attitudes of the Standard-11th Students. It means the attitude of the urban students towards English subject is more positive than the attitude of rural students. See Table 3 Table-3 shows that the t-value is 0.19 which is not significant Thus HO3 is accepted this shows that there is no effect of Gender on the attitudes on English subject of the Standard-11th Rural Students. See Table 4 Table-4 shows that the t-value is 2.88 which is significant at 0.01 level. Thus HO4 is rejected this shows that

there is effect of Gender on the attitudes of the Standard-11th Urban Students. Thus, the attitude toward English subject of the girls of Urban area is more positive than the boys of Urban area. Findings of the study : 1. The boys and girls of Standard-11 are having same attitude towards English Subject and there is no difference between both the groups. 2. The attitude of the urban students towards English subject is more positive than the attitude of rural students of Standard-11. 3. The attitude of the rural boys and girls towards English subject was same. 4. The attitude of the girls of Urban area toward En glish subject is more positive than the boys of Urban area.
